Lanterns Teaser Reveals DCU’s 3rd Green Lantern Ring

The first sneak peek at HBO’s new series, Lanterns, is here, offering fans a glimpse of the Green Lanterns’ world within the DC Universe. The teaser focuses on John Stewart and Hal Jordan, and importantly, shows off two more of the powerful Lantern rings – following the one seen in Superman.

The new trailer immediately shows the relationship between John Stewart, portrayed by Aaron Pierre, and Hal Jordan, played by Kyle Chandler. Along with the trailer, HBO Max also revealed the best view yet of John Stewart’s power ring.

The trailer then showed John Stewart teaming up with the experienced Green Lantern, Hal Jordan, and a glimpse of Hal’s power ring in use. We learn Hal has been training John for around two months, but it seems John hasn’t actually gotten to use the ring’s full power yet. While John’s ring was just revealed, Hal’s was shown off last year, in late 2025.

Seeing Guy Gardner’s ring, it just feels like it’s seen some serious action – years of tough missions and battles, honestly. It really struck me how much more worn it looks compared to John Stewart’s ring, which seems brand new. It’s a visual way to show how different their experiences are as Green Lanterns. And it’s cool because we actually saw Guy’s ring pop up in Superman before this, so it all connects!

The DC Universe now features three distinct Green Lantern rings with its newest additions. It’s possible we’ll see all three rings appear together in the upcoming series Lanterns, as Nathan Fillion is set to reprise his role. He’ll be joined by a cast including Kelly Macdonald, Poorna Jagannathan, Garret Dillahunt, Ulrich Thomsen, and Jasmine Cephas Jones.

The new series, Lanterns, is set to premiere on HBO and Max this August. It’s the second DC Universe project of the year, coming after the Supergirl movie and before the release of Clayface.
