Lanterns: 5 villains perfect for Green Lantern's upcoming TV show

As a seasoned gamer with over three decades under my belt, I can confidently say that the Green Lantern universe is one of the most captivating and intriguing in the DC Comics pantheon. With eight decades of rich history and an expansive roster of heroes and villains, it’s a veritable treasure trove for any fan or creator.

Over the past eight decades, Green Lantern has left an indelible mark on the DC Comics universe since his debut in 1940. Throughout this time, numerous champions have borne the title, each leaving a lasting impact, and often facing off against some of DC’s most nefarious and imaginative adversaries. What sets Green Lantern’s rogues gallery apart is its unique blend of interstellar villains hailing from the cosmos, as well as earthbound antagonists.

Considering this, as we eagerly await the upcoming HBO series titled “Lanterns,” which will be integrated into the DC Universe, let’s delve into the Lantern archives and speculate about some villains that could grace the screens in the highly anticipated television production.

Sinestro

In comic book history, it’s Sinestro, once a trusted Green Lantern but now turned rogue, who stands out among Green Lantern’s adversaries, causing trouble since the Silver Age. As a Yellow Lantern, he stands against the Green Lantern Corps, creating both a cosmic conflict and a deeply personal one with Green Lantern.

Without a doubt, Sinestro stands out as the quintessential adversary for Green Lantern, and he would undeniably fit the role of the main antagonist in the upcoming series. If the creators aim to present the entire Green Lantern saga, then Sinestro’s involvement is crucial in shaping its storyline.

Sonar

Sonar, who has gone up against Green Lantern and the Justice League Europe may seem an obscure choice, but there’s a lot to like about him. Sonar is a truly human villain, who invented his own supervillain weapons and technology, based on manipulating sound. Furthermore, the character is a cunning and powerful foe, and one who could ground the human Lanterns to their home planet.

If the show is looking for an under-the-radar villain with significant depth who isn’t widely recognized by general viewers, Sonar could make an excellent candidate.

Evil Star

As a fervent admirer, let me share my thoughts: While Evil Star seems like a typical human character at first glance, the truth is far more intriguing. He’s not just a resident of our planet; he’s an extraterrestrial demolisher in disguise! His objectives are nothing short of chaos and devastation, making him a formidable adversary that would undeniably add depth to any Green Lantern adaptation.

As a gamer, I can’t help but see potential in this antagonist for some serious laughs. Just like Grant Morrison’s portrayal of Evil Star in The Green Lantern, he’s the kind of villain who’s so over-the-top and comical, it’s hard not to chuckle at his evil schemes. Maybe our series could use a character or two like him to lighten the mood once in a while.

The Black Hand

Since the turn of the millennium, I’ve been captivated by one character who has left an indelible mark on DC Comics – William Hand, also known as the Black Hand. Initially, he made his presence felt as a tech-savvy villain in series like Green Lantern/Green Arrow. Over time, he transformed into the Black Hand, leading the formidable Black Lantern Corps and serving under Nekron, the deity of death.

As an eager viewer, I can’t help but feel a sense of impending doom when I think about “The Black Hand.” This enigmatic figure seems to possess cosmic power beyond comprehension, making him a formidable adversary. It’s as if the writers have been carefully crafting his character over numerous seasons, gradually building up to this climactic moment.

Atrocitus

Hailing from the planet Ryut and leading the Red Lantern Corps, Atrocitus stands as a formidable adversary to the Green Lantern Corps, particularly their leaders, the Cosmic Guardians. Fueled by unrelenting anger, Atrocitus is on a mission of retribution against the Guardians, who were responsible for the annihilation of his home planet, Ryut.

In simple terms, Atrocitus stands as the fiercest adversary of the Green Lantern Corps, making him an excellent candidate for inclusion in the forthcoming series.

The Green Lantern series may be one of the greatest DC series ever, Green Lantern is a character full of possibilities, from Earth to the multiverse. There is no shortage of heroes, villains, and planets for the Green Lantern Corps to explore.
