Laneway 2025 confirms surprise act to join stellar line-up as fans scramble for presale tickets

Oh, my heart skipped a beat when I heard that Laneway 2025 is bringing Djo, the enigmatic musical alter-ego of Joe Keery from Stranger Things, to our shores! As an ardent fan who has watched him grow from Steve Harrington’s lovable sidekick to a full-fledged artist, this feels like the ultimate payoff for years of loyalty.

2025’s Laneway presale tickets became available on Tuesday, with American pop sensation Djo officially joining the artist roster.

As a diehard fan, I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw Joe Keery, famously known for his role in Stranger Things, grace the stage at that music event! It was quite a shock because earlier promotional materials didn’t hint at his appearance at all – no mention of Djo anywhere!

Sharp-eyed spectators noticed a hint suggesting that both the actor and the musician could possibly perform at the upcoming music festival, marking the beginning of a nationwide tour in February.

Last week, posters for the Laneway Festival were released, showcasing small images of beings resembling aliens alongside stars such as Charlie XCX, Clairo, Beabadoobee, and Barry Can’t Swim.

On Monday, fans theorized that Keery’s band Djo might perform at Laneway after a voice message was shared on Instagram.

‘Hey, it looks like you have one extra slot. Any way I can get in on that?’ said the voice.

‘That’s Djo I know that voice,’ gushed one fan.

Keery later took to his own Instagram to confirm the news.

‘Will be coming Down Under for Laneway in February!’ Keery said in his post.

‘Got my fingers crossed for some sideshows too,’ he said.

Laneway will be the first time Keery has brought his psychedelic pop act to Australia.

Launched in 2019, Djo had a massive hit with the single End of Beginning earlier this year.

It comes after organisers confirmed Charli XCX would headline the 2025 event.

Charli previously visited Australia in 2023 for Sydney WorldPride, and her performances at Laneway are the unique opportunity for Australian fans to meet the artist behind “Boom Clap” in person during this visit.

Alongside Charli XCX is the American artist Clairo, renowned for her chart-topping songs Sofia and Sexy to Someone which attract over 20 million listeners each month on Spotify.

UK singer Beabadoobee has also been added to the bill.

Here are the artists listed: Djo, Bicep, Remi Wolf, Olivia Dean, Eyedress, Skeggs, Stum, Rona, Hamdi, Joey Valence & Brae, 2Hollis, Fcukers, Ninajirachi, Julie, and Girl Girl complete the line-up.

Previously announced, the festival is set to commence in New Zealand on February 6, followed by Brisbane Showgrounds on February 8, then Centennial Park in Sydney on February 9, Flemington Park in Melbourne on February 14, Bonython Park in Adelaide on February 15, and finally Wellington Square in Perth on February 16.

At all our festivals, attendees sixteen years old and older are invited, starting from October 15th (with additional charges) for the presale. Ticket prices start at $189.90 (including fees).

For the second launch, ticket-buyers will pay $204.90, and for the third and fourth launches, they’ll pay $219.90 and $229.90 respectively.

VIP tickets will also be available for $289.90.

Last Wednesday, the music festival disclosed its schedule, venues, and ticket costs, following the appearance of numerous neon-green billboards in various alleyways.

The advertisements displayed one word of text in the now-iconic Arial black font: laneway.
