The show is quickly climbing back to the most-watched spot on Paramount+, thanks to the release of its second season. However, one major issue is frustrating fans and could potentially harm the positive momentum surrounding the creator’s other work.
Season 2 of Landman premiered on November 16th, and given the popularity of its first season on Paramount+, many expected it to quickly become the most-watched show. That prediction proved correct. However, strong viewership doesn’t always mean positive reviews, and it seems Season 2 has sparked more disagreement among fans than the first season.
The first season of Landman quickly became a hit on Paramount+, surpassing the viewership numbers of 1923, another series by the same creator. While the new season is aiming for similar success, early reviews on Rotten Tomatoes haven’t been entirely positive. Both seasons currently have a ‘fresh’ rating of 78% from critics, but viewers are particularly unhappy with one aspect of the show, according to initial reactions. An audience score is still being calculated.
What Is the Problem with ‘Landman’ Season 2?

Paramount+
Since it premiered last night, the second season of Landman has received seven reviews, but only three of them are positive. The negative reviews largely focus on the show’s female characters, with one reviewer giving it just half a star and claiming they “completely ruin the show.”
Taylor Sheridan’s shows are often described as a return to traditional Western themes, with a focus on rugged masculinity, and some have even called them “anti-woke.” Although his shows include strong female characters, the storylines for Angela and Ainsley Norris, played by Ali Larter and Michelle Randolph, don’t seem to be connecting with the show’s main viewers.
One reviewer bluntly stated that a mother and daughter duo are hurting the show, despite being visually appealing. They felt the characters add nothing of value to the plot, and this sentiment seems to be shared by some viewers. Another viewer commented:
The storyline focusing on the mother and daughter was really irritating, so I fast-forwarded through all of it. The remaining ten minutes were actually pretty good. Honestly, the first episode felt more like a sensational talk show than a well-made drama.
While some viewers expressed dissatisfaction, others were happy to see Larter and Randolph continue in their roles. However, their positive comments often focused on similar aspects. For example, one viewer wrote, “I really enjoy ‘Landman.’ It feels very realistic, and I love the dynamic between the mother and daughter characters – they’re great to watch.”
Many agree that Season 2 is better than the first, though even positive reviews acknowledge it has some steps backward. Ultimately, the show Landman seems secure as long as people continue to watch, and Taylor Sheridan’s shows consistently draw large audiences, regardless of critical reception.
