Lala doesn't trust Gibbs for good reason in NCIS: Origins

As a long-time fan of NCIS and its spin-offs, I must say that the latest episode of NCIS: Origins left me both amazed and puzzled. The revelation that Gibbs had already taken care of Hernandez six months ago was certainly unexpected!

In the ninth episode of NCIS: Origins’ first season, Lala and Gibbs journeyed to Mexico where they confronted a cartel involved in trafficking girls. This incident has caused Lala to become wary of her partner due to Hernandez’s mention, making her understandably mistrustful.

In the latest installment of NCIS: Origins, Gibbs and Lala delved into a case connected to Hernandez. Lala is convinced that Hernandez was behind the deaths of Shannon and Kelly, and she’s determined to solve this mystery and bring him to account for his actions.

When Lala brought up Hernandez, Gibbs kept a blank facial expression, which left us curious about what was to unfold. Many of us, including myself, anticipated that Gibbs would either explode with anger or take a temporary leave to exact his revenge. However, it was revealed that he had already secured his vengeance.

Lala has put all the pieces together in NCIS: Origins

Towards the end of the show, Lala disclosed that Hernandez had passed away six months earlier, murdered by a sniper. The scene then flashes back to six months ago, when Gibbs discovered Hernandez’s location, removed a cast from his leg, and journeyed to Mexico to exact revenge. Given this background, it is understandable why Gibbs appeared so detached when Lala mentioned Hernandez’s name.

It didn’t take much time for Lala to connect the dots, and now she’s filled with anger. In the winter finale trailer, we discover that Lala no longer has faith in Gibbs, and her lack of trust extends to Gibbs and Frank as well. Considering Frank is aware of Gibbs’ actions but hasn’t taken any steps to address it, this mistrust seems justified.

Truthfully, it seems unlikely that Lala holds much anger towards Gibbs for taking Hernandez’s life. Although she desires justice to be served properly, she may find it reasonable to act independently in certain situations. However, what truly angers her is the fact that she was led on a wild goose chase searching for Hernandez when Gibbs (presumably with Franks) knew he was already deceased. This has caused Lala to squander valuable time and resources pursuing a man who was already buried.

Apart from this, what’s important to note is that she harbored a deep sense of guilt for not locating Hernandez until now. She yearned for justice on behalf of Gibbs’s family and empathized with him through his ordeal. She believed that some of his suffering was indirectly her own fault. However, it seems that her inability to find Hernandez was due to circumstances involving Gibbs. Consequently, she feels frustrated because, had he been honest about the situation earlier, she could have acted differently.

Indeed, Lala has lost faith in Gibbs now. She finds it hard to decipher his emotions, which makes her think that he doesn’t hold her in high regard. This could potentially create tension between them, given their partnership. The growing camaraderie between Gibbs and Franks may further complicate matters.
