Lady Gaga teams up with Tim Burton for new spooky clip of The Dead Dance as singer transforms into CREEPY doll for Netflix hit single

As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that I’ve joined forces with the extraordinary Tim Burton for an eerie musical journey titled “The Dead Dance.” This chilling masterpiece is crafted exclusively for Netflix’s Wednesday, promising an unforgettable experience!

Legendary musician, aged 39, embarked on her initial creative partnership with the innovative film director, who is 67, to co-create a chilling video. This project was collaboratively produced with Michael Polansky and Natalie Testa as well.

As her eagerly awaited guest role on the popular show (also produced by Burton) approaches, the singer of “Judas” is portrayed on a wall enclosed by baby dolls, prior to her performance of the “dead dance,” which brings the dolls to life.

During the chorus, Gaga was accompanied by masked dance partners as day turned into night, with the rhythmic bobbing of the dolls keeping pace with the lively melody.

The eerie music video was shot at Isla de las Muñecas, a small island nestled within the waterways of Xochimilco, Mexico City, famed for its diverse collection of dolls, each with their unique styles and vibrant hues.

Transitioning from monochrome to vibrant hues, the music video for “The Dead Dance” by Lady Gaga skillfully intertwines haunting visuals of dolls with her uniquely captivating performances.

The artist behind the popular Bloody Mary tune, whose song gained popularity even during its debut season, unveiled her newest venture titled ‘The Dead Dance’. This project was sparked by a heartbreak and primarily revolves around the emotions we experience when a relationship ends – specifically, how such an event can extinguish our optimism towards love.

‘It’s got this really cool, funky beat underneath it.

That’s when the song transcends its romantic theme, taking on a new meaning as an ode to camaraderie and shared experiences following hardships. I’m excited for others to hear it.”

This version maintains the original sentiment while using more natural and easy-to-read language. The use of more descriptive phrases like “transcends its romantic theme” and “an ode to camaraderie” helps paint a clearer picture, making the sentence easier to understand for the reader. Additionally, the phrase “shared experiences following hardships” is used instead of “having fun with your friends when you’ve been through something tough and amazing,” which makes the meaning more straightforward while still capturing the essence of the original sentence. Finally, I’ve replaced the colloquialism “yo’ve” with a more formal “you’ve” to make the language sound more polished.

In early July, it was announced that a video for The Dead Dance was being made, as reports surfaced indicating that filming was taking place with Burton on the Island of the Dolls in Xochimilco.

The video and the second part of “Wednesday” were released together on Netflix at midnight on September 3, 2025.

In a popular supernatural TV show, an American actor makes their appearance in the sixth episode, portraying Rosaline Rotwood – a teacher from the Nevermore school who had psychic talents in the 1960s.

As reported by the music supervisors of the show, Lady Gaga established a connection with the team responsible for Wednesday after the first season, and composed The Dead Dance especially for the television series.

During the Wednesday performance, a temporary soundtrack with a comparable beat-per-minute (BPM) was used instead of the final track. For more than a year, the choreographed sequence was kept under wraps until it was replaced by “The Dead Dance” song.

Initial responses to “The Dead Dance” have been positive, labeling it as both ‘ghostly’ and a ‘catchy electro pop tune’. According to Billboard, it possesses a lively 1980s electronic pop feel, driven by playful keyboards and vibrant drum machine rhythms.

Rolling Stone described it as an uplifting pop song with a strong rhythm ideal for dancing, whereas NME noted its eerie, funky vibe, emphasizing its catchy bassline, Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”-like synths, and hints of electric guitar.

Colleen Atwood designed the costumes for the video while Parris Goebel epically choreographed.
