As a seasoned cinephile who has traversed the silver screen for decades, I must admit that Lady Gaga’s latest endeavor in “Wednesday” piques my curiosity and excitement. Her knack for embracing the macabre and her penchant for drama make her an ideal fit for this quirky, gothic series.
Although she’s best known as a pop star, Lady Gaga has long since branched out into acting, even winning a Golden Globe for her portrayal of a vampiric countess on the fifth season of American Horror Story and getting Oscar buzz for her performance in A Star Is Born. Her latest foray onto the screen, playing Harley Quinn in Joker: Folie à Deux, isn’t something she likely wants folks to dwell on, since the movie tanked spectacularly. But according to Entertainment Weekly, she’s returning to TV in the second season of Wednesday, Netflix’s Addams Family show all about the life of young Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega).
It’s unclear who Lady Gaga might portray in the series, but given her affinity for dark and dramatic roles, it seems likely she’ll take on a eerie character. In fact, her unique blend of camp makes her an ideal candidate for a show like “Wednesday”. As Tim Ortega, producer and star of the show, hinted to Variety earlier, “If Lady Gaga were involved, I believe it would be about two monsters who share an understanding with each other.” It appears that Ortega has been contemplating this possibility for some time.
For quite some time now, Lady Gaga’s name has been intertwined with Wednesday, mainly due to the popularity of a remixed version of her song “Bloody Mary” that syncs perfectly with the viral dance scene of Wednesday from a particular show. This wasn’t a fleeting trend; the Gaga remix amassed an astounding 500 million views on YouTube, far surpassing the view count for the original scene. Given such impressive numbers, wouldn’t it be fitting to reach out to her about this?
On Wednesdays, you’ll find stars like Gwendoline Christie, Luis Guzmán, and Catherine Zeta-Jones gracing our screens. Unfortunately, a second season of Wednesday hasn’t been released yet; it might be another four years before we get to see new episodes, making the wait a whopping three years. Under these circumstances, securing Lady Gaga for an appearance seems only fair.
