L.A. County D.A. will not charge Marilyn Manson in rape, domestic violence cases

It was announced on Friday that Marilyn Manson will not be pursued with criminal charges concerning accusations of sexual assault and domestic violence, according to the Los Angeles County district attorneys.

Since 2021, the musician known as Brian Warner has been under investigation by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department due to allegations made by various women claiming rape and abuse. Among his accusers are actresses Evan Rachel Wood from “Westworld” and Esme Bianco from “Game of Thrones.

Attorney Nathan Hochman declared on Friday that it’s no longer possible to bring charges for the alleged domestic violence incidents, as the legal timeframe has expired. Additionally, he stated that the prosecution does not have sufficient evidence to establish the rape allegations beyond any reasonable doubt.

Hochman expressed appreciation and admiration for the bravery and tenacity of the women who spoke up and shared their ordeals, commending them for their cooperation and understanding throughout the investigation. Although we cannot file charges in this specific case, he acknowledged that the passionate advocacy of these women has significantly contributed to a broader awareness about the hurdles survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault often encounter.

The district attorney’s team didn’t provide more information right away after being asked about their decision. It was also difficult to get a hold of Warner’s lawyer for a statement at that moment.

In 2021, accusations against Warner emerged following Bianco’s lawsuit against Manson, which claimed sexual assault, sexual battery, and human trafficking. This lawsuit was resolved by the parties in 2023. Simultaneously, Manson also settled a case with an anonymous woman identified as Jane Doe, who had made similar rape allegations.

For several years, Wood, who was once romantically involved with Warner, has made some of the most comprehensive accusations against him. She alleges that Warner initially assaulted her during a rehearsal for a sex scene in a music video shoot back in 2007, and subsequently manipulated and controlled her for years, a situation often referred to as ‘grooming’.

A former assistant, Ashley Waters, also sued Manson, alleging harassment and assault.

2021 saw investigators from the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department carrying out a search at Charles Manson’s residence. The findings were later submitted to the district attorney’s office in 2022. Over time, the victims felt increasingly disheartened as they waited for a decision on whether to proceed with the case. Last year, lawyers Bianco and Hochman held a press conference criticizing former District Attorney George Gascón for his handling of the case.

Four years ago, as a survivor, I followed the usual course – I reported the rape to the authorities. After a comprehensive investigation and submitting numerous pieces of evidence to the District Attorney’s office, I am still seeking justice. In the interim, I’ve been subjected to death threats, while my perpetrator carries on with public performances.

Last October, Gascón indicated that fresh information had emerged regarding the case, though he declined to specify its nature.

Hochman did not immediately respond to a question about the past campaign event.
