L.A. classical station KUSC slashes staff after federal funding cuts to public radio

The Los Angeles classical music radio station, KUSC-FM (91.5), has had to let go of some staff members due to a reduction in federal funding provided by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, following decisions made by the Republican party.

In simpler terms, the head of Classical California, an organization responsible for running non-profit radio stations KUSC and KDFC based in San Francisco, announced staff cuts in a message sent to their listeners on Thursday.

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting also served as an essential financial resource for cultural and artistic programs, many of which struggle to survive economically within the competitive commercial broadcasting industry.

Notably, both KUSC and KDFC – two radio stations run and managed by the University of Southern California – dedicatedly broadcast classical tunes around the clock. These stations do not align with NPR (National Public Radio). They are, in fact, the most popular classical radio stations across the United States.
