With the release of her new three-part Netflix documentary, Kylie Minogue has reacted to comments made by her former Neighbours co-star and boyfriend, Jason Donovan. They starred together on the popular show in the late 1980s and dated for three years.
After her relationship ended in 1989, Kylie Minogue dated Michael Hutchence, the lead singer of INXS, until 1991. Sadly, Hutchence passed away in 1997.
Donovan recalled first meeting Hutchence alongside Kylie Minogue, while they were both a couple. He explained that Hutchence wasn’t interested in him, noting he was completely focused on Minogue. Reflecting on the experience, Donovan summed it up with a simple, ‘Love hurts, mate.’
Kylie Minogue described Donovan’s contributions to the show as “deeply emotional and touching,” according to Variety.
She agreed with the saying, ‘Love hurts,’ saying it was true and she really appreciated his blunt honesty. She also found him funny, especially his use of strong language, and thought he was uniquely himself – a bit like Jason Donovan.

I was really impressed by how genuine everyone who participated seemed. That’s a testament to Michael Harte and his team, who created an environment where people felt comfortable speaking openly and honestly.
I’ve been thinking about all the things I experienced for the first time, and I often talk about those with Michael, but I also had so many firsts with Jason. We both became famous at the same time, really finding our way together.

We were on the set of Neighbours constantly. Then we started dating, and things quickly became chaotic! Seriously, it was wild. So, a big shout-out to Jason.
Man, the finale really got to me. Kylie revealed she actually battled cancer again in 2021. I knew she was a survivor from way back in 2005, but hearing she went through all that again was just… tough. It puts things in perspective, you know?
The singer had a massive viral success in 2023 with her song ‘Padam Padam,’ and recently spoke about how dealing with her health challenges impacted her.
There was a time I really didn’t want to face the world again. ‘Padam Padam’ gave me so much, opened up incredible opportunities, but deep down I knew my cancer wasn’t just a temporary setback. I felt this huge need to finally share what I’d gone through, to get it off my chest. I’d be doing interviews and thinking, ‘This is it, I’m going to tell them,’ but I just couldn’t bring myself to do it. I kept holding it all in.
Kylie is streaming on Netflix now.
