Kylie Minogue and Ruth Wilson take centre stage in vibrant new fashion campaign for JW Anderson – after designer was named creative director at Christian Dior

Kylie Minogue and Ruth Wilson, both known for their work in acting and entertainment, surprised fans on Thursday by appearing in a new fashion campaign for designer JW Anderson, putting other commitments on hold to do so.

Kylie Minogue, a longtime supporter of the brand, and Rita Wilson recently participated in a stylish photoshoot with actors Daryl McCormack and Mona Tougaard to promote Anderson’s new fall-winter line.

Minogue playfully posed while wearing a unique blue dress covered in embroidered cars.

The 57-year-old Australian singer also turned heads in a vibrant outfit from the new collection, pairing a red, sleeveless cardigan with a see-through lace miniskirt.

Wilson, age 44, also turned heads at the event, wearing a colorful, multi-layered evening gown and shiny black heels.

The actress, famous for her lead role in the TV series Luther, showcased a stylish outfit from the new collection, pairing wide-leg trousers with a crisp white dress shirt.

Last June, Anderson – known for his work and connections within the fashion industry – was appointed the new creative director of Christian Dior.

The designer, originally from Magherafelt, County Derry, is the oldest of three children. His parents are Willie Anderson, a famous rugby player, and Heather Buckley, a high school teacher.

He shared in an interview with The Gloss that he wasn’t much of a rugby player growing up, and didn’t particularly enjoy it. He did try swimming, but said there was never any pressure at home to excel at sports; it just wasn’t that kind of family.

When I think about it, I realize I was likely a pretty demanding kid – probably self-centered and always wanting more. I was also probably overly ambitious, or maybe just indecisive. I loved performing and being creative, and my siblings and I used to put on plays together.

Jonathan’s career blossomed far beyond the playful performances he once shared with his siblings. He went on to found his own successful high fashion brand, JW Anderson, and eventually worked with major celebrities, even designing a memorable outfit for Rihanna’s Super Bowl performance.

He is now the new artistic director, succeeding Maria Grazia Chiuri, who was Dior’s first female creative lead for women’s fashion and accessories starting in 2016, and Kim Jones, who designed menswear for Dior for seven years.

Jonathan shared that he’s always been moved by the long and meaningful tradition of this institution, and its ability to understand and share the feelings of others.

Jonathan has openly talked about struggling with feelings of failure and uncertainty as a young man – he even once thought about becoming a veterinarian. However, those around him seemed confident he would pursue a career in fashion.

In a special edition of British Vogue featuring interviews with Jonathan’s former teachers, one of them recalled a simple question they once asked him: “Jonathan, what about fashion?”

He gave me that look – you know, the one where he crosses his arms – and asked, ‘Seriously? Everyone will think I’m acting like a silly, flighty woman.’

Now, Jonathan is spearheading his unique vision at a major design label.

Bernard Arnault, head of LVMH, hailed Jonathan Anderson as a leading creative force of his generation.

His unique artistic style will be incredibly valuable as Dior moves forward and creates its next legacy.

The acclaimed fashion designer recently received several prestigious awards, and for the second consecutive year, was named Designer of the Year at the 2024 Fashion Awards in December.
