Kyle Sandilands’ punchbag for years, now ‘bullied’ ex-newsreader Geoff Field speaks out on the show’s demise with a deeply emotional message

With renewed attention on the popular radio show hosted by Kyle and Jackie O, old accusations of bullying within the program are being re-examined.

Geoff Field, a well-known newsreader, quit his job on 2DayFM’s Sydney breakfast show in 2010. He had been the target of harsh jokes from Kyle Sandilands for seven years.

Before leaving, Sandilands had unkindly described Field as unintelligent and unwanted, comparing him to a bothersome stepchild.

At the time, radio executives denied there was a bullying problem.  

Kyle Field has finally spoken out about the issues at the radio show Sandilands, after Jackie ‘O’ Henderson unexpectedly left her $100 million contract following a harsh public reprimand.

‘My late mother told me not to waste time on negativity,’ he said.

‘Unfortunately I didn’t always take her advice.’

Field shared on social media that he’s been overwhelmed with messages since KIIS FM’s parent company, ARN, cancelled his show. He also stated he wouldn’t be commenting further on the situation.

He explained that he’s stopping himself from letting anything related to his relationship with Jason negatively impact his well-being. He’s choosing to no longer dwell on things that upset him.

I won’t be discussing what happened today, now or at any point in the future. I trust my friends will respect my decision.

After leaving, Field became much more outspoken. His posts on social media hinted at a difficult and unpleasant work environment during his time there.

Reporters observed that the former newsreader seemed very upset when discussing his time working with Sandilands. When he left his job, there were reports of bullying, but Austereo’s management refuted those claims.

Back in 2014, when Kyle and Jackie O switched from 2Day FM to KIIS, their former colleague, Field, hinted at writing a revealing book about his time there, but it never actually came out.

Last year, Field once more weighed in on the controversy surrounding Kyle and Jackie O, leaving a comment on the social media page of Mad Fking Witches, a group that has consistently called for Sandilands to be taken off the air.

After an update about advertisers pulling support due to comments made by Sandilands on air, Field stated he supported the campaign to do so.

He explained that the man is 54 and the woman is 50, and he felt the need to point this out. He also recalled being called a “dumb old gay man” by the same person when he was only 45.

He said that although Jason, his husband, encouraged him to take a break and prioritize his health, he still kept up with what was happening.

‘Even though I rarely comment, I look at this page often. Well done, witches and warlocks.’

The situation has gained renewed focus after Australian Radio Network, the company that owns KIIS FM, confirmed Jackie O’s $100 million contract was ended. This followed Jackie O telling company leaders she could no longer work with Kyle Sandilands after he made upsetting comments on air that made her cry.

Sandilands has been suspended and given 14 days to remedy the breach or face termination.

ARN has officially notified Quasar Media that the behavior displayed during the February 20th broadcast is a serious violation of their service agreement and is considered serious misconduct.

Even though Henderson is still under contract with ARN for eight more years – having signed a 10-year deal in 2023 – the network has discussed the possibility of him hosting a different show.

The last straw for Henderson was Sandilands accusing her of being unfocused at work.

While arguing on live television, Henderson became emotional and started crying when the conversation turned to Prince Andrew.

Sandilands got angry at her when she tried to read out the former royal’s birth chart.

He lambasted his co-star, claiming that her love for astrology was affecting her work.

When Henderson tried to protect herself and told him he was attacking her, he insisted he was simply stating what he believed to be true.

An emotional Henderson said she was deeply ‘offended’ by his brutal criticism.

After a disagreement, she initially took time off work and was scheduled to come back to the show on March 2nd. However, her permanent departure was officially announced on Tuesday afternoon.
