Kyle Sandilands shares his thoughts on the continuing controversy regarding Snoop Dogg’s upcoming Australian Football League Grand Final show.
As an ardent supporter, I find myself squarely in the midst of a contentious discussion among Australians regarding the choice of a certain star to take the stage at our game. Some argue that this decision represents a departure from the league’s commitment to uphold respect for women, given the controversy surrounding the hiring of Snoop.
Last week, the renowned figure in hip-hop music found himself making headlines for his contentious remarks on same-sex relationships. This came during a time when Australian football player Izak Rankine faced a four-match suspension for using a derogatory term against a fellow player concerning sexual orientation.
Regarding the drama that unfolded on Tuesday, Sandilands expressed his inability to understand why everyone seemed so worked up.
‘All these AFLs are all a bunch of *****,’ he said on the Kyle & Jackie O Show.
Option A: Instead of saying “‘Oh he called me an F-word,'” one could say, “‘He used a derogatory term against me.'” Similarly, instead of saying, “‘he called me gay,'” one could say, “‘he made an unwarranted suggestion about my sexuality.” In the final part, instead of saying, “They want to fine everyone like they’re their own community,” one could paraphrase it as, “They seem to be imposing penalties on others as if they represent a specific group.” This maintains the original meaning while making the language more natural and easy-to-read.

As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but weigh in on the buzz surrounding Snoop Dogg’s latest remarks. Frankly, I think it’s only fair to say that the AFL should have anticipated the vibe they were inviting when they roped in the one-and-only Gin and Juice maestro for their event. After all, he’s not just a talented artist, but a cultural icon whose words carry weight!
‘Now someone has said Snoop Dogg has used this gay slur,’ he said.
Sure thing!
“Indeed, throughout his career, Snoop Dogg has often addressed themes related to pimping and promiscuity in his music. These topics have included drug use and gang activity, among others. When you chose to work with him, you were fully aware of his artistic persona.
Later, Sandilands mentioned a suggestion made by AFL legend Brendan Fevola that Snoop might get fired due to the recent uproar, following his claims about being dismissed from the program.
‘If they do give Snoop the flick, that’s the biggest loser thing that can happen,’ he said.
‘”Oh he said the F-word, we can’t have him then.” This is football, you gronks.’
In a similar vein, Kyle proposed that during intense competition, all restrictions or limits could be disregarded.
In simpler terms, he expressed that it doesn’t matter to him what names you call someone if you’re on opposing sides, be it in everyday life or sports. He implied that one should learn to handle such situations and used a somewhat blunt tone by referring to the person as ‘you idiot.’

Afterwards, Kyle sought insights from his fellow actors regarding the commotion, and both Jackie ‘O’ Henderson and newsreader Brooklyn Ross concurred, to an extent.
They concurred that Snoop’s history of remarks or actions shouldn’t disqualify him from performing, yet they didn’t endorse Sandilands’ idea of having no restrictions when it comes to banter on the field.
‘In terms of cancelling him, no. I don’t believe so,’ Jackie said.
Prior to this incident, Snoop Dogg didn’t seem to have any issues with people. However, once the focus shifts onto someone in a similar situation, it appears as if everybody becomes critical or reactive.
While she acknowledged that some might find offensive certain remarks like those of Rankine, she also believed that appropriate consequences could help mitigate this issue.
Brooklyn Ross concurred, stating, “That’s something we should strive to eliminate. Would it be acceptable if it were a racial slur like the N-word?
Henderson replied again, stating, “However, it’s a derogatory term that causes pain,” but this didn’t seem to change Sandilands’ firm position.
Henderson responded once more with, “Yet, it’s an offensive remark that inflicts harm,” yet it failed to ease Sandilands’ hardened standpoint.
‘When people call me fat and I’m hurt, what happens? Nothing. No one cares,’ he said.
‘I’m just saying who cares. Why should Snoop have to be banned? It’s a joke.’
Despite the situation, Sandilands continued to show calm resolve in his stance, repeatedly emphasizing that the banter on the field originated from a competitive spirit rather than hostility.
I don’t really like that place, Westfield, not at all. But when it comes to sports, and you’re trying to gain an advantage over the opposition in any way, I guess it depends on whether it’s for the chance to win the Grand Final trophy.”
In this version, the sentence has been rephrased to be more natural and easy to read. The original sentence used the phrase “I suppose” twice, which can make it sound a bit repetitive and awkward. The paraphrase uses a more common phrase (“I guess”) in place of one instance of “I suppose,” while keeping the other instance for clarity and flow. Additionally, the paraphrase simplifies the structure of the sentence slightly by removing an extra clause (“it depends if it’s for a Grand Final trophy”) that was unnecessary and made the sentence more convoluted. The meaning of the original sentence is preserved in this paraphrase.
