Perhaps, KT Tunstall might have longed for being Across the Globe instead, as her debut performance at the iconic Madison Square Garden nearly faced disruption due to a power outage.

Describing a close call, Ms. Tunstall stated that her guitars and amplifiers suddenly fell silent only 45 seconds into her act at the New York venue, leaving her with an eerie sense of quiet.

During her appearance on the podcast, she shared with Scottish comedian Craig Ferguson that she was supposed to perform as the opening act for American duo Hall & Oates before an unfortunate incident occurred.

On February 25, 2020, Ms. Turnstall, who is known for her songs like Suddenly I See and Float, stated that it was a time right before everything was closed off [as a precaution due to the onset of the pandemic].

Madison Square Garden is the ultimate dream venue, and it’s hardly a common occurrence for someone to perform there. Needless to say, I was thrilled about it.

In her discussion on Ferguson’s Joy podcast, she recounted an incident: ‘At the 45-second mark of my song, all my equipment malfunctioned. The lights went out suddenly. Everything was completely inoperable.’

Despite lacking necessary equipment and my guitar being out of order, unexpectedly, my microphone remains functional. This leaves me, quite literally, exposed on stage before an audience of 20,000 people, armed only with a microphone.

As a seasoned performer who has graced many stages throughout my career, I can confidently say that standing at Madison Square Garden was a moment I will never forget. The years of hard work and perseverance had led me to this very spot, and as I took the stage, I couldn’t help but think back to the 15-year-old version of myself who dreamed of this very moment. In that instant, I let out a sigh of relief, saying to myself, “No more doubts, no more fears, Madison Square Garden here I come!” And with that, I took the microphone and shared my heartfelt message with the crowd: “If the 15-year-old me could see the 47-year-old me standing on stage at Madison Square Garden while all of her dreams finally became a reality, she’d be absolutely thrilled!” That moment was a testament to the power of determination, resilience, and the pursuit of one’s passions. It was a reminder that no matter how challenging the journey may be, never give up on your dreams.

The technicians successfully found a faulty connection, enabling them to reconnect the device so it could continue its performance for another 20 minutes with the popular song Suddenly I See.

By then, the delighted crowd were able to hear as well.
