Krysten Ritter Teases Big Return for Jessica Jones

Although *Jessica Jones* was known for its gritty and serious tone, Krysten Ritter, the show’s lead actress, suggests there’s hope for a more optimistic future for the character, who is a superhero working as a private investigator.

Krysten Ritter is coming back as Jessica Jones in the Disney+ series *Daredevil: Born Again* next year, and she’s expected to have a significant part. There’s even a possibility she’ll appear in future projects for fans of the character.

During New York Comic-Con on October 12th, actress Krysten Ritter, speaking with Marvel Television’s Brad Winderbaum, revealed that a fourth season of *Jessica Jones* had been planned. She explained that the season would have provided a satisfying conclusion for her character before the show was cancelled.

I’ve been thinking about a lot of possibilities for the show, and Brad and I have discussed them. I don’t want to reveal any details just yet, because we’re planning to incorporate them into future episodes,” Ritter hinted.

Krysten Ritter first played the disillusioned superhero Jessica Jones on Netflix in 2015. She reprised the role in the 2017 team-up series *The Defenders*, and in seasons two and three of *Jessica Jones*, which aired in 2018 and 2019.

The show was unexpectedly canceled in February 2019, just before the start of its third season. However, Disney later officially made it part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline, placing the events of the series within Phase 2.

Several things contributed to the cancellation of the popular series. Viewership for Netflix’s Marvel shows had been steadily decreasing each season, production was expensive, and Disney got the rights to the shows back. Disney also wanted to use the content for its own new streaming platform, Disney+.

Ever since then, fans have been eager to see Jessica Jones back in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. They especially want to see more of the character, given Krysten Ritter’s widely praised performance.

In March 2022, Jessica Jones was taken off Netflix and added to Disney+ when Disney got the rights to the show back.

The Most Evil TV Villains of the Last 25 Years

Homelander (The Boys)

We expect superheroes to keep us safe, but Homelander, the villain from *The Boys*, is terrifying because he’s the opposite of that. He’s dangerously unstable, incredibly powerful, and completely lacks empathy. Even considering his difficult past, he shows little to no human compassion. He cruelly makes a young girl jump off a roof, forces another hero to commit a horrific act to prove loyalty, and brutally attacks a superpowered individual, permanently taking away their hearing. He even sacrifices the lives of everyone on a plane to avoid a minor inconvenience. Essentially, he’s a monstrously evil version of Superman – a sociopathic narcissist – making him one of the most frightening villains on television today. (And frankly, his strange obsession with milk is just disturbing.)

Joffrey Baratheon (Game of Thrones)

Joffrey Baratheon was a cruel and terrible person, and while his difficult childhood – being born from incest and as the son of Cersei Lannister – doesn’t justify his actions, it provides some context. As the illegitimate son of Cersei and Jaime Lannister and a false heir to the throne, he was incredibly spoiled and lacked any sense of empathy. He was sadistic, cowardly, and full of himself, finding joy in the suffering of others. Examples include humiliating and beating Sansa Stark, and then forcing her to witness her father’s death. He callously tortured people for his own amusement, ordered killings simply for sport, and showed no honor whatsoever. His cruel betrayal and execution of Ned Stark, despite promising him mercy, was a particularly petty act that ultimately triggered the devastating War of the Five Kings and the eventual destruction of King’s Landing.

Cartman (South Park)

It might seem surprising to find a seemingly childish cartoon character on a list of the most evil TV villains, but we’re talking about Eric Cartman. He’s notorious for relentlessly bullying his friends, especially with hateful and prejudiced behavior – even going so far as to intentionally infect one with HIV. Cartman’s extreme behavior doesn’t stop there; he’s dressed up as Hitler and pretended to lead a campaign against Jewish people, tormented kids for their hair color, faked a disability to win a competition, and tricked friends with elaborate lies. He’s even forced another child to perform a horrifying act during a contest over a small amount of money. Cartman is consistently bigoted, cruel, and shows no regret for his actions, making him one of the most despicable characters in television history.

Kilgrave (Jessica Jones)

Kilgrave, or the Purple Man, is the primary antagonist in the first season of Netflix’s *Jessica Jones*. However, the harm he inflicts on Jessica extends well beyond his time on screen. Kilgrave gained the ability to control others through spoken commands, and he deeply traumatizes Jessica by manipulating her into committing terrible acts. He completely robs her of her autonomy, forcing her into a harmful and unwanted sexual relationship and continuing to torment her even after she escapes his control. The trauma he causes Jessica continues to affect her long after his death.

Aku (Samurai Jack)

Aku, a being of pure evil born from a cosmic darkness, is the main villain in Cartoon Network’s *Samurai Jack*. He doesn’t simply conquer the world; he dominates it with cruelty, turning much of the Earth into a desolate wasteland. He’s a master manipulator who delights in tormenting Jack, and inflicts a particularly devastating blow by trapping the samurai in the future. This ensures Jack can’t stop Aku’s rule and is separated from his family and friends, effectively condemning him to a hopeless existence for almost 50 years.

The Governor (The Walking Dead)

In *The Walking Dead*, the real danger isn’t the Walkers themselves, but the other survivors. The Governor, a key villain in seasons 3 and 4, perfectly illustrates this point. He led a fortified town through fear and control, masking his cruelty with a charming facade. He was manipulative and ruthless, going so far as to experiment on Walkers, torture people, threaten violence, and carry out mass executions—all to stay in power. This demonstrates a common theme in post-apocalyptic stories: humans are often the biggest threat.

Ramsay Bolton (Game of Thrones)

Look, when people talk about the biggest villains in *Game of Thrones*, most immediately think of Cersei or even Joffrey. But for pure, unadulterated cruelty, Ramsay Bolton takes the cake. What makes Ramsay so terrifying isn’t some twisted backstory like Joffrey’s – he’s just fundamentally broken. He doesn’t just want to inflict pain; he wants to destroy people completely, mentally and emotionally. I mean, the way he tormented Theon Greyjoy was horrific. And his treatment of Sansa Stark, forcing marriage and then subjecting her to repeated abuse, was truly awful. He was capable of anything – burning Winterfell with people still inside, hunting people just to flay them, even feeding people to his dogs! The scene with Rickon Stark and Jon Snow… that still haunts me. He wasn’t motivated by power or politics, just a disturbing need to cause suffering.

Bill Cipher (Gravity Falls)

Despite his goofy appearance and playful hat, Bill Cipher from Disney’s *Gravity Falls* is a truly terrifying villain. He’s a powerful demon from another dimension who wants to cause a massive disaster called “Weirdmageddon,” unleashing unimaginable suffering on Earth. Bill is chaotic and manipulative, and capable of inflicting fates worse than death. He’s responsible for countless deaths throughout history, even wiping out entire galaxies and his own family – a truly ruthless act.

Ralph Cifaretto (The Sopranos)

The Sopranos is full of terrible people—including, arguably, Tony Soprano himself. But when it comes to pure villainy, Ralph Cifaretto stands out. He’s deeply disturbed, enjoys inflicting pain, and seems to get pleasure from making others miserable, even without a clear motive. He’s consistently cruel, a cheater, responsible for multiple deaths, and shockingly, kills a horse for the insurance money. However, his most horrific act is brutally murdering a young, pregnant stripper after she disrespected him, and he shows absolutely no regret for it.

Ed Peletier (The Walking Dead)

I remember Ed Peletier from the very beginning of *The Walking Dead*, though he wasn’t around for long – just a few episodes in Season 1. But honestly, he really stuck with me. He was just so disturbingly believable as this awful, controlling person. He was Carol’s husband, and he was a total abuser, terrorizing both her and their daughter, Sophia. He was always trying to keep Carol away from everyone else, wanting to completely control her. It’s satisfying, though, when he finally gets his comeuppance.
