Kristin Davis Reveals Oscar-Winning Actress She Beat in Melrose Place Audition
Kristin Davis is recognized for her groundbreaking role as Charlotte in the popular TV show Sex and the City, along with its spin-off titled And Just Like That.
But before that the actress, 59, starred as Brooke Armstrong on Melrose Place in 1995.
In a tough battle for the role, the actress revealed to People magazine that she emerged victorious, beating out another actress for the part.
When Kristin arrived for the audition two other hopefuls were already there.
She mentioned that she recalled entering a place where only three individuals were present, including herself. Everyone there seemed friendly, she added, as they had been individually invited for meetings with the executives.
She also recollects the moment when Hilary Swank appeared, and at that time, she seemed quite young to her. Her hairstyle was shorter and more athletic, which made her say, “Oh dear.
As Swank left the audition, she expressed to the others that she had really messed up, attempting to console her.

I can only imagine how thrilled young Swank must have been when she landed a role on Aaron Spelling’s other smash hit, Beverly Hills, 90210. What a dream come true for any aspiring actress!
She played Carly Reynolds in the 1997-1998 season.
After leaving 90210, Swank went on to work in a daring project, Boys Don’t Cry.
She won the Best Actress Academy Award for her convincing portrayal of Brandon Teena, a transgender man, in the 1999 dramatic film.
She earned a second Oscar for her portrayal of a paralyzed boxer in 2004’s Million Dollar Baby.
Davis remarked, “It’s clear that she ended up winning two Oscars after defeating Swank for the part. She performed well; she really did.
Davis too remembered experiencing a great deal of anxiety regarding the appropriate attire for her audition with the influential show creator, Aaron Spelling, as she struggled with what to wear.
She remembered that 10 executives were lined up in a row to see what she could do.
SATC creator Darren Star was ‘the only one’ who seemed to be paying attention to her.
Davis chose to style her audition ensemble after the halter wedding dress that Heather Locklear, a star from Melrose Place, wore during her wedding to Richie Sambora from Bon Jovi, which took place in December 1994.
She bought a similar-looking bustier.
‘I had this whole plan that I was going to strip my jacket off in the scene,’ she explained.
‘I did it, and clearly it worked out. But I mean, I was just riddled with anxiety, okay?’
