Kristen Kish Says She’ll Never Compete on Top Chef Again

I’m genuinely disappointed to say that the most mouthwateringly tension-filled show on our 2025 TV lineup, Top Chef: Destination Canada, is preparing to wrap up its Season 22 finale, a double-episode spectacle set in Milan. This rollercoaster ride has been equally exhilarating for the cheftestants and viewers alike, with powerhouse contestants like Massimo Piedimonte and César Murillo exiting the competition, while Chicago’s Bailey Sullivan managed to stay in the game through Last Chance Kitchen. Host Kristen Kish extended a significant compliment to this group, and also hinted at her potential return for another round of culinary combat in TopMob.

As I sat down for a chat with Kish, discussing her second year as the high-fashion host of Top Chef, I couldn’t help but express my bewilderment about this season’s unpredictable winner. She wholeheartedly agreed, confessing that she often found herself changing her predictions week after week. Reminiscing on what it would have been like to compete against the talented contestants of Destination Canada, she mused about how challenging and exhilarating it would have been.

Everyone experiences ups and downs, adventures, and it’s anyone’s win. It’s been like this right from the start. Sometimes I ponder, ‘Oh my goodness, if I were competing against all of them, and this was my season?’ Absolutely petrified, yes, terrified. [Laughs.] They’re all incredibly talented.

[Or]

Each one is going through highs and lows, journeys, and the competition could go either way. It’s been like that since day one. Sometimes I wonder, ‘Gosh, if I were competing against everyone, and this was my season?’ I’d be utterly terrified. [Laughs.] They’re all so skilled.

[Or]

They’re all experiencing peaks and valleys, adventures, and the outcome could change at any moment. It’s been like that since the beginning. Sometimes I imagine, ‘Wow, if I were competing against all of them, and this was my season?’ Absolutely terrified, yes, scared to death. [Laughs.] They’re all so talented.

Given that Kristen Kish was the first “Top Chef” contestant to win both the main competition and a spot back through “Last Chance Kitchen,” which can be accessed with a Peacock subscription, one might assume she’d be quite self-assured in her culinary abilities. However, the exceptional skill set of Season 22’s chefs is so impressive that even an accomplished host like herself could feel somewhat intimidated.

Would Kirsten Kish Compete On Top Chef Again?

Given her voiced hesitance to potentially go up against the many chefs vying for the prize this season, I had to ask if she ever thought about competing again and if that was a possible goal. To my surprise, her answer was both resolute and against the grain. As she put it:

Absolutely not! And to be honest, I don’t think they would allow it. However, rest assured, I have no intentions of repeating such an action.

I was taken aback when the previous host of Iron Chef expressed such certainty about not participating in Top Chef again, presumably for a Masters season. Still, her reluctance to join is something I can comprehend entirely. If it wasn’t due to fear of facing a new group of accomplished chefs, then re-entering the competition wouldn’t necessarily benefit Kish’s career prospects, given that she’s already a host.

As a die-hard cinema enthusiast, I’d say participating in another season could jeopardize not just my sense of pride and stable heart rate, but also my effortless qualification for the title of “former Top Chef champion.” If I were to compete in Masters and unfortunately lose—which seems quite unlikely in my opinion—it might tarnish the brilliance of my Season 10 victory.

1. Last week on Top Chef, Kristen Kish clarified something that has long puzzled me – the role freshness plays in judging meals.

2. As a long-time fan of Top Chef, I’ve often pondered about how the freshness of a dish influences the judges’ decisions. Kristen Kish finally provided some insight on this.

3. After watching Top Chef for more than ten years, I still can’t comprehend how (Spoiler) repeated the classic Restaurant Wars blunder yet again.

Re-entering the intense cookoff arena proved beneficial for chef Brooke Williamson, who was runner-up to Kish in Season 10. In Season 14, she teamed up with other returning chefs against the rookies and successfully dodged early dismissals, eventually winning the title. However, Kish, having already secured her spot, is content to steer clear of such intense competition and its associated pressure again.

It remains uncertain if Kirsten Kish will put on an apron for competition again, whether in Top Chef or elsewhere, so it’s best not to hold your breath. However, fans can catch her hosting the Season 22 finale, which is scheduled to air on Bravo at 9:00 p.m. ET on Thursday, June 12.
