Kristen Bell shared that it took her several months to convince Adam Brody to star as her romantic partner in the film Nobody Wants This, highlighting the strong connection they share on screen.
The 45-year-old actress is preparing for the new season of her popular Netflix show, where she plays a podcast host who doesn’t believe in God and develops a romantic connection with a rabbi, portrayed by Adam.
The first season of this romantic comedy, inspired by the creator Erin Foster’s actual relationship with her husband, was a big hit. It quickly became the most popular show on Netflix, attracting 15.9 million viewers in just one week.
Kristen recently shared in an interview with Red magazine that she really had to persuade Adam to join the show, and she’s still surprised he agreed.
She immediately recognized him when she read the script, having worked with him before on shows like House of Lies and movies including Some Girl(S) and Scream 4.
The Frozen actress described her co-star as captivating and consistently delightful, but revealed he wasn’t initially keen on taking on a romantic role.

I spent months trying to get Adam on board, but he really didn’t want to play a romantic role. I’m still surprised he finally agreed!
He doesn’t quite fit into any one category. While he might seem predictable at first, he consistently surprises people with the unexpected projects he chooses – he only takes on work that genuinely interests him.
As a lifestyle expert, I’ve noticed something fascinating about this actor. He’s incredibly watchable, and I think a lot of that comes down to his role as Seth on The O.C. – people already associate him with being a genuinely good person. It’s amazing because even when he plays characters who are downbeat or cynical, he still manages to be completely charming. That’s a really rare talent!
Kristen admitted she was surprised by the strong connection audiences felt between her and her co-star. ‘I’m not sure why people enjoy watching us together,’ she said, ‘but when I first read the script, I immediately pictured him in the role, and I thought others would feel that same connection.’
She also shared details about filming the memorable first kiss between her and her co-star in the second episode. The scene quickly became popular online because of how passionate and realistic it felt.
As a huge fan, I heard Kristen Bell talking about filming that kiss, and she said they deliberately stretched out everything leading up to it – making it about ten times longer than what would normally be expected. It was a conscious choice to really build the tension!
When Adam touched my face, I immediately felt a connection – it was a beautiful and intimate moment.
Kristen recently shared that she thinks the memorable kiss was likely the best she’s ever performed on screen.

Looking back, it’s easy to see the good moments, but you don’t always realize them while you’re experiencing them. I can step back and appreciate those scenes now, and think, ‘Yeah, that was really well done.’
She explained that a lot of effort went into creating a memorable scene, emphasizing the anticipation leading up to the kiss rather than the kiss itself.
We wanted to build a lot of excitement beforehand. The kiss itself wasn’t the main point; it was everything leading up to it that really mattered, she said.
We really wanted to make those initial moments last as long as possible. We all agreed that while the actual kiss is just a kiss, it’s everything before that moment that truly matters.
It’s all the little details – the way we made eye contact, touched faces, even breathed and blinked. We went overboard adding those intimate moments, but surprisingly, they all made the final cut and it really paid off.
Erin, the creator, mentioned the scene had been discussed with Adam, as she had a specific vision for how his character should kiss Kristen.
Noah and Joanne are having a conversation on the street about the fact that they haven’t kissed yet. He asks her to set down her ice cream and bag, then gently touches her face before leaning in for a kiss.
Erin explained that Adam was hesitant to ask the woman to stop eating her ice cream, but Erin insisted he do so.

He was really questioning why he was taking the lead, worried he was coming across as controlling and unkind. I immediately told him that wasn’t it at all – it was incredibly attractive! He’s such a genuinely sweet, emotionally open, and kind person, and that’s exactly what makes it so hot. I explained he needed to confidently ask what she wanted, something like, ‘You want me to kiss you? Drop everything, because I’m about to give you a kiss you’ll never forget.’
After we finished, I believe he finally understood how much it meant to me, and it ultimately had a positive outcome.
Last August, Kristen shared that her husband, Dax Shepard, was playfully obsessed with a kiss she shared with someone else. He even sent her a funny voice message to cheer her up about it.
At the first-ever Televerse event in Los Angeles, she recounted hearing Dax and his companions excitedly yelling and shouting ‘Oh my god!’ as the scene unfolded.
Kristen, who has been married to the actor for 12 years and has two daughters with him, explained that his enthusiasm reveals how deeply he cared about the romantic storyline of the fictional couple.
She playfully mentioned feeling a lot of pressure to get the scene right, and both she and Adam were committed to doing it well.
She explained that the scene aims to show the strong connection and ease between the two characters, highlighting how comfortable intimacy can be deeply passionate.
‘It’s a deep, beautiful emotion, and we don’t associate it with kissing very much.’
The second season of Nobody Wants This will begin streaming on October 23rd, with ten episodes each lasting about thirty minutes.

The next episode hints at a blossoming romance and new beginnings. When we last saw Joanne, a podcast host who doesn’t believe in organized religion, and Noah, a charming and unconventional rabbi, their instant connection shocked everyone around them – including Joanne’s sister Morgan, Noah’s brother Sasha and Sasha’s wife Esther – and even surprised them both.
Despite facing many challenges, their connection remained strong. Now, they’ve reunited and are happily building a life together, including blending their families.
Even though they’ve found love, their fundamental differences remain, and those can’t be overlooked. The real difficulty isn’t just starting a relationship despite those differences, but making it last.
Season two will feature guest appearances by Seth Rogen, Kate Berlant, Miles Fowler, Alex Karpovsky, Arian Moayed, and Adam Scott’s wife, Leighton Meester.
The December issue of Red is on sale from 23 October.
