Oh my gosh, when I found out Kristen and Dax actually broke up way back in 2007, I immediately thought about their poor little girls! Apparently, they were totally devastated. Can you imagine? Their parents, Kristen and Dax, separating? It must have been so hard on them, even back then. I just feel for them, honestly.
The actor explained on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Tuesday that his family believed their mother was responsible.
The couple shares two children: 12-year-old Lincoln and 10-year-old Delta. They choose to keep their children out of the public eye, avoiding social media posts showing their faces and rarely bringing them to events.
The children found out about their parents’ separation while watching the 2012 film Hit and Run, which Dax Shepard wrote and which was inspired by his relationship with Kristen Bell.
‘They were very upset,’ Shepard said. ‘And what made me happy is they were mad at mom, not me.’
You know, it’s funny – people had a lot of opinions about my parents’ relationship. They saw my mom as strong, maybe even a bit tough, and my dad as someone who’d made mistakes but deserved a second chance. Honestly, I completely get why they felt that way. It was a complex situation, but that’s just how it was!
He publicly discussed his struggles with addiction in 2021, referring to them as a difficult period in his life. He also admitted to a short setback in 2020 and expressed his regret over it.

Bell, 45, and Shepard met in 2007 and started dating soon after. They wed in 2013.
They dated for three months, but Shepard ended the relationship because he didn’t feel ready for a serious commitment.
In a 2017 interview with Popsugar, Bell shared that he told her, ‘I’m not ready for a relationship right now. You’re great, but I’m still seeing other people.’ She appreciated that he was upfront with her.
You know, I was chatting with Shepard recently, and he shared something really interesting. He told me that despite the story being a bit… let’s just say not exactly kid-friendly, his children actually ended up loving it! It was a funny admission, and it really highlights how kids can sometimes surprise you with what they enjoy.
He explained that the situation was a good way to see how his children would react, noting they have a fantastic sense of humor and aren’t afraid to fully commit to things.
The actress shared that she and her husband hadn’t seen the movie in a long time, but her husband thought it had held up remarkably well over the years, like a fine wine.
The couple talked their 2012 film Hit And Run because it is now on Hulu.
This happened after fans criticized a post she made that many found insensitive, as it referenced Dax’s promise to never harm her.
Last month, actress Bell shared her thoughts on what makes a marriage successful: consistent compromise. Speaking with Andy Cohen, she explained that it’s not about finding someone who perfectly completes you, but about both partners adapting and fitting together.

A strong partnership means both people are committed to making things work, and that requires constant compromise where both individuals feel satisfied. Relationships will naturally have ups and downs, but it’s important to approach challenges as a team, rather than as opponents. It’s about working together to overcome obstacles, not competing against each other.
Kristen also loves that Dax has ‘a commitment to growth at all times’.
We really connect with each other, understanding both the good times and the bad. Because we’re both creative, our conversations often feel collaborative, like we’re building something together, even when we’re just chatting about anything.
‘I am glad I chose my husband because he has a commitment to growth at all times.’
Kristen has shared that she enjoys the difficulties of being a mother. The actress also mentioned that her family life is often full of funny and unexpected moments.

The actress shared with TODAY that raising kids is a constant rollercoaster. She said each day brings something funny, often leaving you feeling like you could either burst into tears or just laugh at how absurd it all is – from the silly things kids say to the endless messes, like avocado or, well, you know, everywhere.
Kristen’s experience has actually made her more appreciative of her own mom.
I always tried to follow the rules, but surprisingly, I found myself disagreeing with everything my mother wanted me to do.
If someone offered me that dress, my first reaction would be to say I didn’t want it. Now I feel bad for thinking that way.
Noticing that same spirit in my daughters made me understand I need to encourage their independence, though I know it won’t be easy.
