Kraven the Hunter sets unwanted record with terrible box-office debut
As a seasoned gamer and movie enthusiast who has seen his fair share of blockbusters, I must confess that the recent box office performance of “Kraven the Hunter” left me feeling rather… underwhelmed. It’s not often that a Spider-Man spin-off fails to impress, but this one seems to have missed the mark entirely.
Kraven the Hunter has set an unwanted record with its terrible box-office debut.
Over the weekend, I was thrilled to head out and catch the latest villain film featuring Spider-Man’s adversaries. However, it seems that not as many fans were able to make it to the theaters as the movie only managed to grab the third spot at the US box office, raking in a total of $11 million across 3,211 screens. According to Variety, that’s the tally we’re looking at.
The movie featuring Aaron Taylor Johnson marks the conclusion of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, consisting of the Venom trilogy, Morbius, and Madame Web. Regrettably, it didn’t manage to outdo Madame Web’s $15.3 million opening in the US box office, thereby establishing a new record for the smallest U.S. debut of any Sony Marvel film.
As a dedicated gamer, I’ve got to share that Kraven the Hunter didn’t exactly win over the critics. In fact, it only managed a dismal 15% thumbs-up on Rotten Tomatoes from its initial 101 reviews.
Digital Spy gave the movie Kraven the Hunter a two-star review, stating that: “One major issue with this version of Kraven is that it fails to meet the expectations of comic book fans who are familiar with the character. This Kraven lacks the villainous qualities and barely qualifies as an anti-hero, unless his main objective is to kill people. Without Spider-Man, he seems to lack purpose almost entirely.
Meanwhile, Disney’s movie “Moana 2” continues to reign supreme at the U.S. box office for a third straight weekend.
In a total of 4,000 theaters, the sequel of the adventure film brought in an additional $26.6 million, bringing its worldwide earnings to $717 million. Currently, it ranks as the fifth highest-grossing movie in the U.S. this year and the fourth largest global release.
In its fourth week on stage, the musical interpretation of “Wicked” continues to hold strong in second position, earning an impressive $22.5 million at 3,689 different locations.
The film has earned a total of $883 million worldwide, with $359 million coming from the U.S. alone, making it the highest-grossing Broadway adaptation ever shown in American cinemas.
Kraven the Hunter is out now in cinemas.
