Kourtney Kardashian reveals her baby suffered a life-threatening lung condition in utero

As a fan and someone who has always admired Kourtney Kardashian for her strength and resilience, I was deeply moved by her recent revelation about the emergency surgery she underwent to save her baby’s life. I have always appreciated the transparency of the Kardashian-Jenner family, but this experience takes their openness to a whole new level.

Kourtney Kardashian shares her experience of the alarming emergency operation that prevented harm to her infant’s health.

In May, Poosh founder Kim Kardashian shared that she and her husband Travis Barker arranged for an additional ultrasound at home to allow their kids to see their new sibling beforehand. However, during the examination, the doctor discovered something was not quite right.

Before determining that her unborn baby required surgery, Kardashian visited several specialists due to concerns about fluid buildup in the infant’s lungs, which she disclosed on the latest episode of “The Kardashians” (Thursday).

“Having had three straightforward pregnancies before, I wasn’t anticipating the terror of needing urgent fetal surgery in my latest pregnancy, as shared on Instagram in September 2023 with a picture of me holding Barker’s hand and wearing a hospital bracelet. The fear is something that only those who have experienced it can comprehend. My perspective towards mothers who have battled for their babies during pregnancy has significantly changed.”

She called Rocky’s condition “super rare” on Thursday and said they lucky to have caught it.

As a movie buff, I’d put it this way: When I received the news from my doctors that my condition wasn’t connected to my age – I was 45 at the time – I couldn’t believe it. My son, Rocky Thirteen, had just been born on November 1st. It felt surreal that something unexpected like this could happen to me.

However, even with the surgery completed, the rest of Kardashian’s pregnancy wasn’t smooth sailing.

She pointed out during the Season 5 debut of their program that there’s a tear in the amniotic sac at the site of the intervention. As a result, she’s prohibited from driving and can only stand for short periods of time (no more than 20 minutes). Consequently, she has no plans to venture outside her home.

As a film enthusiast, I can relate when I say that Kardashian’s ordeal didn’t end with her baby’s birth. Post-surgery, Rocky’s lungs started retaining fluid again, leaving me on the edge of my seat, worried about their recovery. In response to this setback, Kardashian delved deeper into researching the power of optimism and its impact on wellbeing.

“On the show, she shared that she began conversing with the baby daily, offering up her prayers. Following this change in perspective, the baby’s fluid issues resolved entirely, leaving us problem-free.”

Besides his 7-month-old son Rocky, Kardashian is the mother of three other children: Mason (13), Penelope (11), and Reign (8). These kids were born from her past relationship with Scott Disick. Barker has two older children, Alabama (17) and Landon (20), with his ex-wife Shanna Moakler. He also plays a significant role in raising Atiana De La Hoya, who is 24 years old, from one of Shanna’s previous relationships.

The couple got married in June 2022, marking the end of a year-long courtship. They held three wedding ceremonies – one in Las Vegas, another in Santa Barbara, and the last one in Portofino, Italy. A year after their marriage, Kourtney announced her pregnancy in a creative way at a Blink-182 concert using a cardboard sign, following several unsuccessful attempts with IVF treatments.
