Kool & The Gang’s Michael Sumler dead at 71: ‘Chicago Mike’ killed in horror car crash
According to reports, Michael Sumler, a member of the renowned band Kool & The Gang, is said to have passed away at the age of 71 following a car accident that occurred during the weekend.
According to Fox 5, Sumler met an accident in Cobb County, Georgia late on Saturday night. His car collided with another vehicle on Veterans Memorial Highway near Buckner Road just before midnight.
The legendary musician reportedly died at the scene.
In a statement issued after his passing, Mayor Michael Owens of Mableton commended the late Sumler, affectionately known as ‘Chicago Miker’.

His exceptional talents and vibrant spirit significantly enriched both the music and entertainment industries. For years, his unique style and infectious energy brought a sparkle and enthusiasm to Kool and the Gang. The city of Mableton, along with its council members, share in the grief of his family, acquaintances, and admirers.’
Kool & The Gang originated in 1964 from Jersey City, New Jersey, and by the year 1969, they released their debut, self-titled album.
