Konnie Huq reveals she’s NEVER bought a new phone and only uses husband Charlie Brooker’s hand-me-downs after admitting she hasn’t purchased clothes for 20 years

Konnie Huq publicly shared that she’s always opted for secondhand phones from her spouse, Charlie Brooker, rather than purchasing brand-new ones herself.

Previously, the current host of Blue Peter (who is now 50 years old), openly confessed that she has not purchased any new clothing items for the past two decades. Moreover, she identified herself as someone who actively opposes consumerism.

In a conversation with Daily Mail, Konnie revealed that her current phone is similar to her husband’s old one, while her son now uses her previous phone.

In essence, the phone gets passed down from one person to another, so I usually end up with hand-me-down devices rather than receiving a brand-new one myself.

The phones are always being handed down through generations, meaning I don’t receive new ones; instead, I get the older models that were previously used by my husband.

She mentioned that her husband Charlie, known for creating Black Mirror, is quite different from her: ‘He’s very tech-savvy and often says things like, “16GB isn’t sufficient for me, it can’t store everything. I require 32GB,” while I tend to be less knowledgeable about such matters.’

Although constantly under public scrutiny, Konnie abstains from using social media platforms and terms her technological preferences as ‘completely old-school.’ Instead, she prefers engaging in conversations over the telephone, opting for traditional phone calls rather than text messages.

Konnie frequently expresses her views on leading a lifestyle that’s eco-friendly, and she’s openly shared: ‘I lean more towards minimalism, so I tend not to purchase many items.’

In the past two decades, I’ve managed to avoid purchasing new clothes because, much like on Blue Peter, I’ve been provided with clothing for my roles.

As I grow older, I become increasingly at ease with who I am. I prefer to be perceived as genuinely myself, even if it means not being trendy, rather than relying on my clothing to make an impression. I find greater happiness in expressing authenticity over conformity.

The speaker and writer shares that her parents instilled in her a lesson about not wasting resources, and she intends to pass on this value to her sons as well.

Katie is now serving as EE’s family representative for their newest campaign aimed at guiding teenagers on responsible smartphone usage, especially in preparation for the upcoming school year. This initiative emphasizes establishing guidelines and limits for phone use within families.

New research from EE shows 9 in 10 parents admit they argue with their children about device use.

Konnie is urging families to drop by any of our 400+ stores across the country, where they can receive professional advice on how to maintain their child’s digital health and discover our new line of Safer SIMs designed specifically for users under 18. (Additional details below)

Konnie and Charlie’s kids, Covey (aged 13) and Huxley (aged 11), haven’t gotten smartphones that work optimally as of now. In place of these advanced devices, their oldest son is making do with a simple “dumb phone” that offers limited features.

In simpler terms, she stated that her youngest child, fresh from finishing primary school, has been eagerly requesting a smartphone ever since birth, while her older child shows little interest.

As an ardent admirer, I must say he’s more of a solitary figure, immune to the fear-of-missing-out (FOMO) epidemic. Now, his counterpart is quite the opposite – they’re like two peas in a pod that somehow grew apart on a vine. Interestingly enough, the younger one does possess a mobile device, but it’s never been activated with a SIM card. It turns out this gadget is actually an oversized tablet instead of a phone without a line.

Upon being questioned about her concerns regarding her children joining the digital realm, she commented: “It’s an around-the-clock environment, and it can be unsettling not knowing with whom they are communicating or what activities they are engaging in.

You’re just a few clicks away from straying into potentially harmful territory online. The internet is primarily guided by links, traffic, and algorithms, which can be treacherous, especially since we didn’t have the same access to it when we were younger. Sometimes I worry that people may not fully understand the potential risks they are navigating.

Konnie is urging families across the country to drop by any one of more than 400 locations for advice on navigating their child’s digital environment as they prepare for the upcoming school year. Additionally, they will have an opportunity to discover a fresh lineup of Safer SIMs designed to foster success and safety online for those under 18 years old.

Back in the late ’90s and through much of the 2000s, I found myself deeply cherished by many viewers as I took on the role of a Blue Peter presenter from December 1997 up until January 2008.

After twenty years, she has chosen to shift her focus away from TV hosting and now devotes herself to crafting children’s literature.

In the year 2009, during a broadcast of the TV series Screenwipe, she had the chance to meet the man behind Black Mirror. Nine months after that encounter, in June 2010, they announced their engagement.

She shared that, in her household, there aren’t strict rules about screen time or during date nights with Charlie because they tend to have different opinions on the matter, and she feels slightly overruled, as it seems more kids than adults are advocating for screen time.

My older child takes a keen interest in coding and often spends time on his computer. Meanwhile, my younger son, who is more active on social media platforms, aspires to have his own YouTube channel and also wants a presence on TikTok and similar apps.

He hasn’t started abiding by the school rules yet since he’s starting high school this year. Currently, there are no established rules or guidelines, but things might shift once the new school year begins.
