Konnie Huq recalls ‘mortifying’ wardrobe malfunction at the BAFTAs in a glitzy dress: ‘My boobs exploded!’
At the 2016 BAFTAs, Konnie Huq shared an embarrassing incident involving a wardrobe mishap on the red carpet.
As a lifestyle expert, I’d like to share an incident from my personal life. Being 49 years old and a proud parent of two wonderful boys, Covie (14) and Huxley (11), who I share with my husband Charlie Brooker, I recently encountered an unexpected situation. I had the chance to discuss this unforeseen event on Fabulous’ No Parental Guidance podcast.
As a lifestyle expert, I’d like to share that during the award ceremony, I was simultaneously celebrating and caring for my five-month-old son, Huxley. He was receiving his nourishment through breastfeeding.
Konnie confessed that as a result her breasts ended up ‘exploding with milk’.
She remembered: ‘I used to depart from home before the baby awoke. I’d wake up at 5 o’clock, needed to pump milk, and would step out of the house without even catching a glimpse of the baby.’
‘I needed us to finish early. And if we didn’t, I’d sit there with my boobs so in pain.’
She went on to say: “Previously, I attended the BAFTAs while wearing a transparent gown. On that occasion, I recall needing to put numerous tissues in my bra and even compress my chest for comfort.
‘Thank God, the red carpet bit is first because I could see two stains on me – not a good look’.
Konnie became an on-screen favourite when she appeared as a CBBC Blue Peter presenter.
In the year 2009, she encountered her future husband, the creator of Black Mirror, during a broadcast of his program titled Screenwipe. Nine months afterward, in June 2010, they decided to get engaged.
Earlier, Charlie’s partner from Blue Peter confessed that she pushed for marriage and children in the initial phase of their relationship.
Konnie told the TV creator that she had set a deadline for both of them, ensuring they wouldn’t squander their time on each other unnecessarily.
Reflecting on my chat with the delightful Sophie Ellis-Bextor during her Spinning Plates podcast in 2022, I shared that one of my deepest desires was to embark on the beautiful journey of parenthood. However, I harbored a concern that my partner, Charlie, might not have the same longing for children as I did. Consequently, we had an essential conversation about this matter, and it indeed proved to be a defining moment in our relationship.
She had long dreamt of having children… She imagined herself raising a family of three, but ended up with two, at which point she decided, “That’s enough for me.

Initially, I found myself taken aback because Charlie seemed to harbor no desire for parenthood. In fact, I bluntly expressed my concerns, stating that our compatibility hinged on his parental intentions. However, as time unfolded, I discovered that my assumptions about him were misguided.
However, despite his seemingly gloomy personality, Charlie is actually very skilled when it comes to working with children. In fact, he’s like a lamb hidden within a wolf.
In a quick conversation about their rapid engagement, Konnie expressed that back then, she felt like her internal timer for starting a family was running out.
At around thirty-five years old, she found herself contemplating, “I don’t wish to engage in another romantic involvement without some progress,” as the passage of time seemed more pressing.
