Knives Out fans! A new “unpredictable whodunnit” is being added to Netflix in a matter of days
If you’re into star-studded whodunnits, Netflix’s upcoming series The Residence will be right up your street.
From producer Shonda Rhimes (Grey’s Anatomy, Bridgerton), The Residence stars Orange Is the New Black‘s Uzo Aduba as eccentric DC police detective Cordelia Cupp, called to investigate a murder at the White House.
The screwball whodunnit is coming to the streamer in just a few days, with all eight episodes becoming available on March 20.
Inspired by The Residence: Inside the Private World of the White House by Kate Andersen Brower, the series from creator Paul William Davies sees Cordelia trying to solve a murder that happened during a state dinner.
Meanwhile, interpersonal conflicts between the White House staff are brought to light.
Cordelia has to work alongside FBI Special Agent Edwin Park (Randall Park), quizzing a bunch of personnel to find the culprit.
The ensemble includes Breaking Bad star Giancarlo Esposito as White House chief usher AB Wynter, with This Is Us star Susan Kelechi Watson as Wynter’s assistant Jasmine Haney.
US President Perry Morgan is played by Paul Fitzgerald, while Barrett Foa plays his husband aka the First Gentleman, Elliot Morgan.
Rounding out the cast are Nip/Tuck star Julian McMahon as Australia Prime Minister Stephen Roos, Jason Lee as the President’s brother Tripp, Edwina Findley as White House butler Sheila Cannon, Ken Marino as the President’s chief adviser Harry Hollinger, and even Kylie Minogue playing herself in a cameo.
Starry detective show fans have another series to look forward to in the coming months.
Following an acclaimed first season that aired in 2023, Poker Face has been confirmed to return for round two on May 8 in the US.
Starring OITNB‘s Natasha Lyonne as human lie-detector Charlie Cale, the series from Knives Out‘s Rian Johnson subverts the rules of a classic whodunnit.
In each installment, the guilty party is disclosed quickly, allowing the audience to follow along as detective Charlie peels back layers of deception to ultimately expose the murderer.
The Residence will premiere on Netflix on March 20.
