Kit Harington Says ‘God No’ To Game of Thrones Return

It’s unlikely Kit Harington will reprise his role as Jon Snow in the future. While there were initial ideas for a spin-off series featuring his character, those plans were cancelled, and Harington seems content with not returning to the world of Game of Thrones.

So, I was reading an interview with Kit Harington about him voicing Gilderoy Lockhart for the new Harry Potter audiobooks, and the conversation naturally turned to Game of Thrones. The interviewer asked if he’d ever consider doing the voice for Jon Snow in something similar, and his answer was a pretty firm ‘absolutely not!’ He basically said he spent a decade playing that character and is perfectly happy leaving it at that – can’t say I blame him!

I think Kit Harington has made it very clear – he doesn’t seem interested in bringing Jon Snow back for any of the new Game of Thrones shows. But the world of Westeros is definitely expanding! HBO is really building out the Game of Thrones universe, and it’s exciting to see. We’re already enjoying House of the Dragon, and another prequel, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, is coming in 2026. It’s great to know the story will continue, even if it’s not with Jon Snow.

Kit Harington Backs Out of Game of Thrones Spinoff Featuring Jon Snow

A sequel series featuring Jon Snow, continuing the story of Game of Thrones, was first announced in 2022. Nearly two years later, Kit Harington revealed the project was no longer moving forward. He explained that he had initially hoped to keep the development of the spinoff a secret.

Kit Harington explained to Screen Rant that he hadn’t discussed the project publicly because it was still being developed. He wanted to avoid leaks and prevent people from forming opinions – either positive or negative – about something that might not even come to fruition.

During development, we carefully consider all possibilities to determine if a project is viable. He confirmed that a Jon Snow spin-off series is currently not moving forward, explaining that the team couldn’t develop a story they were all enthusiastic about, so they’ve paused work on it for now.

He ended by suggesting it might be considered again later, saying, “We’re not ruling it out completely, but for now, the idea is on hold.”

Game of Thrones Continues on HBO With A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms

This new series is a prequel set roughly 100 years before the events of Game of Thrones and 100 years after House of the Dragon. It features Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan the Tall and Dexter Sol Ansell playing his companion, Egg.

This story takes place during the reign of the Targaryen dynasty, when dragons are still remembered. It follows a group of unlikely friends as they face great challenges, powerful enemies, and dangerous adventures.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms premieres January 18, 2026 on HBO and HBO Max.
