As a gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in the fantastical realms of Westeros through both Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon, I can empathize with Kit Harington’s and Emilia Clarke’s sentiments. After all, it’s like being invited to a reunion for a group project you spent years working on, only to find someone else leading the presentation. It feels oddly disconcerting yet strangely familiar.
HBO has completed the second installment of “House of the Dragon,” its spin-off from the popular series “Game of Thrones.” Although some viewers criticized the finale, it managed to garner record-breaking ratings for the show, indicating strong viewer engagement. The positive response has convinced HBO to greenlight seasons 3 and 4, with the fourth season serving as the final chapter in the story.
During a considerable hiatus before the next episode airs, HBO likely anticipates viewers will revisit past episodes. However, one individual who won’t be among them is Kit Harington, the original star of “Game of Thrones,” who portrayed Jon Snow throughout the entire eight-season fantasy series.
As a gamer putting this into my own words: “After immersing myself for so long, I find it hard to step back and watch Game of Thrones. Even though I hear great things about its current run, I feel like I might have invested too much time there, making it difficult for me to revisit the show.”
As a die-hard Game of Thrones fan, Kit Harington’s remarks about House of the Dragon echo what Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen) shared last year: “It just seems so surreal. I’m absolutely thrilled about it. I’m ecstatic about all the accolades…I simply can’t join in. It feels so odd, so strange. It’s almost like being invited to a school reunion that isn’t my year. I’ve decided to steer clear of it.”
To put it simply, being deeply involved in this series throughout our formative years as actors, we’ve developed a strong bond with it. It’s like watching someone else step into your own shoes at a high school reunion – it just doesn’t feel right to see another take on something so personal to us. I believe that sentiment is quite relatable.
Five years after the conclusion of “Game of Thrones”, Kit Harington admits that he finds it strange to rewatch the series. He stated, “I don’t think I’ll watch ‘Game of Thrones’ again for quite some time; it’s taken a while to move past it.”
Harington continues his association with HBO. In the forthcoming third season of the series Industry, which delves into the competitive realm of high finance, he will portray the role of Henry Muck, the CEO of a green technology company on the verge of an initial public offering.
The third installment of “Industry” commences this coming Sunday, August 11. Concerning the upcoming season of “House of the Dragon”, it seems we won’t catch it on screen until around 2026.
