KISS performed live again this weekend, marking their first show since the passing of original guitarist Ace Frehley, who died last month at the age of 74.
During KISS’s three-day Landlocked Kruise event in Las Vegas this weekend, singer Paul Stanley paused to recognize the significant influence the late musician had on the band’s history.
Before we start, we wanted to pause and remember Ace, one of the original members of our band,” Stanley said to the crowd. “We didn’t always agree, but that’s just part of being a family.”
As reported by People magazine, KISS members – 73-year-old Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Eric Singer, and Tommy Thayer – mentioned Ace Frehley only in passing while discussing a recording session from the 1970s.
Thayer, 65, also lifted his hand toward the sky before launching into a guitar solo.
Throughout the weekend, fans enthusiastically chanted ‘Ace, Ace, Ace,’ even during opening act Sebastian Bach’s performance on Saturday, November 15th.

I still can’t believe it… Ace Frehley is gone. They finally said what happened – he fell and suffered a terrible head injury. It was an accident, they’re calling it, but honestly, it just feels…wrong. A legend like Ace, gone like that? It’s just heartbreaking. I keep replaying his guitar solos in my head, trying to make sense of it all. It was a fall, they said… an accident. I just wish…
The famous musician fell and hit his head in his home studio, which led to a medical emergency.
Ace Frehley’s health declined following a recent fall at his house, according to his representative, Lori Lousararian, in a statement to Rolling Stone.
Shortly before he passed away, the guitarist called off the rest of his tour. He shared in an Instagram post to his fans that making this decision was ‘difficult’.
People close to the musician reported to TMZ that he was on a ventilator for several days, but his condition wasn’t improving. Doctors ultimately made the difficult decision to remove him from life support.
A statement released after Ace’s death said that he would be remembered forever for all he accomplished in his remarkable life.
Ace Frehley, a founding member of KISS and the first of the band’s original lineup to pass away, started the group in 1973 with Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, and drummer Peter Criss.
Kiss, inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2014, was famous for their over-the-top image, including elaborate costumes, distinctive makeup, high platform boots, and spectacular stage effects.
Their most famous songs include Detroit Rock City, I Was Made for Lovin’ You, and Rock and Roll All Nite.

Ace Frehley was a true innovator in rock and roll, famous for his exciting stage shows. He was the first to use special effects like glowing guitars, smoke machines, and even rockets, inspiring many other musicians to add similar elements to their performances.
Ace Frehley’s family told Rolling Stone they are heartbroken but thankful they could be with him when he passed away.
We are deeply saddened and heartbroken. We were grateful to be with him in his final moments, offering him our love, comfort, and peaceful thoughts and prayers as he passed away.
They remembered his happiest moments, his joyful laugh, and the positive impact he had on people through his strength and kindness. They said his loss was immense and difficult to fully grasp.

After leaving KISS in 1982, Ace Frehley formed the band Frehley’s Comet. He later rejoined KISS for their very successful 1996 reunion tour and stayed with them until 2002. Since then, he’s continued to perform and record music on his own.
In April 2024, he told Antihero that he was proud of forging his own path outside the band.
He confidently stated he’s achieved more solo success than any other original member of Kiss, a claim supported by the lasting popularity of his 1978 song, ‘New York Groove’.
He also spoke about the scale of his influence.
He shared that most guitar players he meets – at least three out of four – tell him they were inspired to start playing by his band’s album, Alive! They say hearing that album made them want to pick up a guitar and learn his songs.

I think how people remember me will be that I successfully moved from being in a huge band like Kiss to having a thriving career on my own.
As a lifestyle expert, I was so saddened to hear about Ace Frehley’s passing. Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons shared a statement with The Hollywood Reporter, and they were clearly devastated by the loss – and honestly, so is the entire music community.
He was described as a vital and unique member of the band, especially during its early and most important years.
They stated he will forever be remembered as an important part of KISS, and offered their sympathy to his partner, Jeanette, his daughter, Monique, and fans everywhere.
