Kirstie Allsopp’s Secret Wedding in Iconic Love Actually Chapel Stuns Guests!
She has long insisted she was ‘happily unmarried’ – but Kirstie Allsopp has had a change of heart.
In this captivating set of unique photographs, Kirstie Allsopp, the beloved host of Location Location Location, is radiantly happy after marrying her real estate mogul partner Ben Andersen last week. The intimate wedding ceremony was shrouded in secrecy right up until the big day itself, with many guests unaware of the nuptials to ensure privacy.
The understated, tasteful gathering took place at the Grosvenor Chapel located in Mayfair, a venue famously used for the nuptials depicted in the movie “Love Actually” featuring Keira Knightley and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
Additionally, it holds significant ties to Kirstie’s family, serving as the venue for the memorial service of her late father, Charles Allsopp, 6th Baron Hindlip, who was previously the chairman of Christie’s, in June of last year.
In a historic 18th-century edifice, the pair reunited to exchange their wedding vows in the presence of approximately 70 dear companions and relatives, many of whom learned about the event mere moments beforehand.
Kirstie and Ben, a couple bonded for 21 years with two teenage boys, Bay aged 18 and Oscar at 16, announced they were commemorating Ben’s 64th birthday, but instead had an unexpected surprise in store.
Kirstie, aged 53, came to the event wearing a breathtakingly beautiful Oscar de la Renta gown adorned with golden sequins and tulle, which she had purchased just two weeks prior.
The 40-minute celebration was filled with delight as it showcased “All You Need Is Love,” a well-known Beatles tune that has been previously used in Richard Curtis’ film, Love Actually, along with the hymn “I Vow To Thee, My Country.
As a devoted admirer, I’d rephrase it this way: I was shocked when Kirstie revealed to The Mail on Sunday that the last-minute and secretive nature of the arrangements left even stalwarts like my dear co-host for over two decades, Phil Spencer, unable to attend the event.
On Thursday, Ben and I got married at The Grosvenor Chapel, a place that holds special significance for my family as it was where both my parents and grandparents tied the knot, and where we commemorated my father’s life in June.’ She shared this.
On Monday, we welcomed a select gathering of dear friends and relatives, who were newly informed about our wedding.
Previously, we had arranged a grand celebration for Ben’s birthday. Most attendees assumed it was for this occasion, and indeed, we carried out the festivities as planned, filled with delicious food, drinks, dancing, and our nephews and nieces playing energetically, enjoying themselves to the fullest.
Ben came up with the idea for us to sing ‘All You Need is Love’. I’m a big fan of Richard Curtis and have an authentic script from his movie. I bought my glitzy dress on sale about two weeks ago, and the gracious staff at Oscar de la Renta added sleeves to it, assuming it was for an award event.
‘Every aspect of the event, from the floral arrangements to the catering, the service order, and the lighting, was skillfully organized by individuals I’ve collaborated with for years. They managed to keep it a secret and pull off an extraordinary celebration at extremely short notice, despite this, some cherished friends and family members, including Phil, couldn’t attend due to the lack of advance notice.’
In the story, it was the sons of the pair – including Hal and Orion, who are Ben’s eldest sons from a prior relationship – who served as ushers. The quartet was spotted at a nearby wine bar prior to the wedding, with Bay rehearsing a speech outside.
The participants at the ceremony were Kirstie’s siblings, Sofie Fletcher and Natasha Morley, fashion designer India Hicks, as well as Kirstie’s relative, ex-hedge fund manager Jamie Allsopp.
After discovering that a paparazzo was lurking near the chapel, Kirstie chose to publish the professional photos, skillfully captured by renowned photographer Catherine Bradley, in this very publication.
She expressed her expectation that they managed to achieve something truly special – an intimate, heartfelt wedding in our beloved city, held at a church with familial ties, and notably, the church from the movie ‘Love Actually.’
‘Unfortunately, despite my cunning plan, there was a paparazzi photographer outside.
I am sharing some personal photos, and if you would like to use them too, please consider making a donation to the Grosvenor Chapel. This historic chapel will soon be celebrating its 300th anniversary in Mayfair. You can make your donation through grosvenorchapel.org.uk.
Through her ex-wife Theresa, Kirstie met Benjamin, an accomplished millionaire who made his fortune on his own. Interestingly enough, they both went to the prestigious Bedales School together in their younger years.
Until last week, Ben always said he did not want to marry again following his divorce.
Kirstie mentioned that Ben would never propose marriage to her. Ten days into their relationship, he expressed his feelings by saying, “I don’t wish to remarry, but I hope we can have children together and share the rest of our lives as partners.
Almost as if it were a proposal, I found myself needing to agree. Ben is an extraordinary individual whom I hold dear and deeply love.
