Kirstie Allsopp under fire after letting 15-year-old interrail across Europe for three weeks over summer

As a seasoned traveler and a mother of two grown children myself, I wholeheartedly stand by Kirstie Allsopp‘s decision to allow her son to embark on an Interrail adventure at 15 years old. My own children took their first solo trips abroad when they were barely older than Oscar Hercules, and I can attest to the life-changing experiences they gained from those journeys.

Last night, Kirstie Allsopp faced criticism when she permitted her 15-year-old son to travel independently throughout Europe via InterRail.

On social media, the TV host shared that her youngest son, Oscar Hercules, and a 16-year-old companion were coming back home after spending three weeks traveling through the continent together.

Some users have expressed concerns about a 52-year-old travelling with a child who appears to be quite young, suggesting that the child might not be adequately accompanied during their travels across the continent.

‌One communicated to the mother-of-two on the platform once known as Twitter that “If something had gone awry, you would have accepted accountability and likely not been able to forgive yourself.”

As a devoted admirer, I’d put it this way: “Even though I wish I could shield you from every danger, at 15, you’re still finding your footing in the complexities of life. Not every experience is suitable yet.”

As a devoted supporter, I’m expressing today my belief in Oscar Hercules, who’s celebrating his 16th birthday. I stand by Ms. Allsopp’s statement that both Oscar and his companion planned the European tour on their own initiative, without any external influence.

‌She wrote: ‘For obvious budget reasons interrailing isn’t on the cards for everyone, but in this increasingly risk-averse world it’s vital that we find any ways we can to give our children the confidence that only comes from trusting them.’

The host of Location, Location, Location noted that “if we’re anxious about our kids feeling the same fear, if we step back, they’ll spread their wings.”

Ms. Allsopp, co-parent of 18-year-old Bay Atlas with Ben Anderson, faced scrutiny as some people suggested that she wouldn’t allow her 15-year-old daughter to join the same journey.

As an ardent admirer, I must express my agreement with Ms. Allsopp’s sentiments, particularly her insightful remarks. She shared that she too had ventured out at the same tender age. Remarkably, she emphasized a crucial point: incidents of sexual assault are more commonly perpetrated by acquaintances rather than strangers. Moreover, boys statistically face a higher likelihood of experiencing a violent encounter with an unknown individual compared to girls.

‌There is no minimum age for teenagers to go Interrailing, although the European network says that it requires written consent for minors to travel without their parents.

‌The Mail has approached Ms Allsopp’s representatives for comment.
