Kingsman star Sophie Cookson reveals her mother has died as she shares heartbreaking tribute: ‘Love you Mum, I’m so lucky you were mine’

Sophie Cookson shared the sad news of her mother Marie’s passing, only a short time after letting fans know her mother was nearing the end of her life and receiving care.

Sophie shared a heartfelt message about the passing of her beloved dog, Madge, last week. She expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love and support she and Madge received, and apologized if she hasn’t been able to respond to everyone, explaining the kindness has been incredibly comforting.

She wanted her passing to be public, hoping to reassure others that it’s alright to talk about death and that the end of life doesn’t have to be frightening.

Her kindness, peacefulness, and generosity continue to have a lasting impact, and I want to encourage more open conversations about death and grief. It’s vital that we create a supportive and honest environment where we can talk about this difficult but inevitable part of life and be there for one another.

‘More of that later, but in the meantime… Love you Mum, I’m so lucky you were mine.’

The emotional post received a lot of support from friends and celebrities. Naomi Watts, who acted with Sophie in the TV show *Gypsy*, wrote a message of sympathy, saying ‘I’m so sorry and sending you lots of love.’ Actress Jazzy de Lisser also shared her support, writing ‘Sending you so much love.’

Sophie shared an update just two weeks after letting everyone know her mother was nearing the end of her life in the hospital. She previously described being with her mother as a difficult but strangely moving experience, filled with frustration, fear, and unexpected moments of beauty.

Sophie encouraged anyone experiencing similar challenges to connect with her. She hoped that sharing experiences could make a difficult part of life feel more manageable, and assured everyone she would read their messages, even if she couldn’t respond to them all. Her goal was to let people know they weren’t alone.

The actress, originally from Sussex, became well-known in 2014 after appearing in the movie *Kingsman: The Secret Service* alongside Taron Egerton and Colin Firth. Recently, she’s been sharing sweet family moments online.

She recently posted photos of her daughter, Marie, having fun in Europe with her, her husband Stephen Campbell Moore, and the whole family. Marie is five years old.

In an August post, Sophie shared a photo of her mother looking out over rolling hills, wearing a bright red top. She wrote about the bittersweet feeling of late summer, acknowledging that while the season is ending, there’s still plenty to appreciate. She encouraged people to tell their loved ones how much they care and to not worry about minor issues, as they won’t matter in the long run.

A different photo captured Marie happily browsing a flower market, with armfuls of eucalyptus and purple flowers. Sophie’s caption was short and sweet: ‘Kiss & Fly.’

Sophie, known for her roles in shows like The Trial of Christine Keeler, Greed, and The Confessions of Frannie Langton, began dating Stephen, 45, in 2018. They first met on the set of the movie Red Joan in 2017.

Stephen was once married to actress Claire Foy, who is known for her role in *The Crown*. They have a daughter who is ten years old.

Earlier this year, Sophie ended a year of not posting on social media to share that she’d made a big lifestyle change. She quit drinking and is now training to be a yoga teacher, calling it a ‘radical reset’ for her life.

She explained then that yoga had profoundly changed her, fostering both deep understanding and great compassion. She called it an unexpectedly wonderful and supportive practice, both for her personal wellbeing and for navigating the challenges of everyday life.
