Kingdom Hearts 4 Confirms 1 Major Character Recast (For the Second Time)

A key actor from the Kingdom Hearts series accidentally revealed a major change in the cast for Kingdom Hearts 4. While the game was announced over three years ago, details about the next installment in the popular RPG series are still scarce.

Ever since the first trailer for the next Kingdom Hearts game appeared, fans have been buzzing with questions – like why Sora seemed to be in the real world and if we’d see worlds from Star Wars and Marvel included. Now, Alyson Stoner, a key voice actress in the series, has shared a new detail. In an interview, she revealed she’ll be taking on yet another role in Kingdom Hearts 4: Namine. She’s already well-known for voicing Kairi and Xion in the games, and this marks a second recast for the character of Namine.

The voice actress for Kairi, Xion, and Namine from Kingdom Hearts shared that many fans aren’t aware she also voices Namine, and she worried she might be revealing a surprise by mentioning it.

It’s amazing seeing such a diverse group of fans here, but honestly, ‘Kingdom Hearts’ fans have really come out in force today! I voice a few characters in the series – Kairi, Xion, and Namine. I’ve noticed a lot of people aren’t familiar with Namine, so I’m a little worried I shouldn’t even mention her, just in case I accidentally spoil something!

As a big Kingdom Hearts fan, I just found out there’s been another change with Namine’s voice! It looks like Brittany Stone, who originally voiced her, is back. She previously voiced Namine, then Meaghan Jette Martin took over starting with Re:Chain of Memories. But now it seems Brittany Stone will be the voice of Namine going forward, which is interesting news for Kingdom Hearts 4 and beyond.

It’s understandable why Namine and Kairi have the same voice actress. In the story of Kingdom Hearts, Namine is created from Kairi’s heart after it’s separated from her.

We don’t have any official release details for Kingdom Hearts 4 yet, but reports suggest it’s been in the works since April 2020. In the meantime, Kingdom Hearts fans can enjoy a new anime series called Twisted-Wonderland, which is now available on Disney+.

Why Would Namine Get Recast in Kingdom Hearts?

For almost 20 years, the character Namine has been voiced by the same actress. Brittany Stone originally brought Namine to life in the first game, and then Meaghan Jette Martin continued voicing her in every subsequent release of the popular role-playing game series.

Why did Square Enix decide to replace the voice actor after so many years? The main reason is likely time. Martin has voiced the character since 2005 – a considerable length of time, especially when including the years spent developing the character initially.

Recently, Martin has kept acting, with notable roles in stage plays and films like the 2023 movie, Journey. It’s possible she’s simply moved on from the character of Namine and doesn’t want to reprise the role in Kingdom Hearts 4. Alternatively, she may have been too busy to return, creating an opportunity for Alyson Stoner to take over the part.

Since Namine is essentially the Nobody counterpart to Kairi – a character in Kingdom Hearts who’s almost a perfect, but emotionless, copy – it makes sense that both characters are voiced by the same actress.

While fans wait for Kingdom Hearts 4 to be released on consoles, they can still enjoy hearing Josh Keaton, who voices Sora, in other popular Disney shows like Phineas and Ferb and Camp Rock.
