King Pro League (KPL) Grand Finals 2025 kicks off with nearly $10M prize pool for China

Honor of Kings is starting the King Pro League (KPL) 2025 Grand Finals, bringing together twelve teams to compete for a large prize pool. This China-based event is the second year of the KPL, and it has replaced the International Championship (KIC), which used to include teams from around the world.

Following qualifying rounds in the spring and summer, the competition is now set to determine a new champion. The final match will be held at the Beijing National Stadium, famous for hosting the 2008 Olympic Games. This puts the event on par with League of Legends, as both showcase their most important competitions in large-scale stadium venues.

This season is a collaboration between TiMi Studios and Hero Esports, and it has a lot of sponsors. The main HoK Esports competition will be held in person, traveling to three different cities to complete the event.

King Pro League Grand Finals 2025: Schedule and Format

Besides the championship match, the event will feature three rounds of qualifying matches. The first, called the Challenge Stage, will divide teams into two groups according to their points from the yearly competition. Each group will play a series of matches against the other, with each team facing every opponent in a best-of-five format, using a global ban and pick system to choose the characters or strategies used.

The competition will be divided into two groups: a Master Group for the top six players and an Elite Group for the remaining six. The four highest-ranked players from the Master Group, plus the winner of the Elite Group, will move on to the Knockout Stage. The two lowest-ranked players from the Master Group and the five remaining players from the Elite Group will compete in the Breakout Stage.

Breakout Stage

The competition begins on October 12th and lasts for three days. The first stage will be held in Chengdu, featuring six teams in a single-elimination bracket. The three winning teams will move on to the next stage. The initial match will determine which team chooses their side first, decided by a coin flip. This same coin flip method will also be used to decide who starts on which side in the very first game. All matches will be best-of-seven, using a Global Ban Pick system and concluding with an Ultimate Battle round.

Knockout Stage

Beginning October 17th, 2025, this phase of the competition will last for two weeks, concluding on November 2nd, 2025. The event will be held in Changsha, featuring eight teams competing in a double-elimination bracket, starting with the quarterfinal matches. Team matchups will be determined randomly.

A coin flip will decide which side goes first in the initial game. All matches will be best-of-seven, using a global ban pick system and concluding with an ultimate battle round.

Grand Finals

Honor of Kings fans, get ready! The championship final will be held on November 18, 2025, at Beijing National Stadium. The team that wins the upper bracket final will choose which side they want to play first. Like the previous rounds, the final match will be a best-of-seven series, using the Global Ban Pick and Ultimate Battle formats.
