King Mo comes out of retirement, Ailin Perez slams Tracy Cortez & Alex Pereira wants Jon Jones

As a dedicated combat sports fan, I’m excited to share my thoughts and perspectives on the latest news from the world of fighting. Each morning, I’ll be bringing you the biggest headlines and providing my unique take below.

In this new daily feature, I will dissect the latest combat sports news and share my perspective on each story. Make it a part of your routine to visit every morning for coverage of the day’s most significant or intriguing developments.

King Mo comes out of retirement for BKFC fight

Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal has revealed his decision to return to competition, announcing that he will face Dave Mundell in a fight scheduled for BKFC on September 13.

King Mo, often referred to by that name, called it quits with Bellator in 2019. He was once a champion in Strikeforce and held a special place in my early MMA coverage years. I’m intrigued to observe how he fares in high-level bare-knuckle fighting, given his extended hiatus. My excitement isn’t immense, but I will tune in, keeping fingers crossed that this decision benefits him positively in his post-career life.

Ailin Perez slams Tracy Cortez for almost missing weight

Ailin Perez expressed her disappointment towards Tracy Cortez on social media following her narrow miss of the weight limit for the main event against Rose Namajunas. “Wow, @cortez MMA, it looks like you had to drastically cut your hair in order to make weight for this significant opportunity. You barely managed to make it and it’s unfortunate that you weren’t fully prepared for this big moment against a former UFC champion.”

I have some trouble understanding Perez’s perspective in this situation. Contrary to what he may imply, Cortez neither missed weight nor squandered opportunities. Instead, she seized every chance and made a significant sacrifice to prepare for her fight. It appears that Perez harbors some jealousy towards Cortez not having been granted the opportunity himself.

Alex Pereira wants Jon Jones at heavyweight or no one

After Alex Pereira claimed both the middleweight and light heavyweight titles with minimal gap between victories, fans clamored for him to challenge the heavyweights. However, Pereira expressed no immediate desire to move up in weight class, stating that a bout against Jon Jones would be his only consideration, otherwise it wouldn’t be worth it for him. “To put it frankly, the heavyweight division isn’t my aspiration; it doesn’t hold my primary attention. I’m discussing positions, not as a fighter, but rather in terms of where I stand now. It seems illogical for me to contend for an interim belt at this point.”

Pereira’s views don’t warrant blame from my standpoint, and I agree with his assessment. It seems illogical for him to shift to a significantly larger weight class without securing the undisputed title. The heavyweight division is currently in a state of confusion, making it unnecessary for another contender to complicate matters further.
