Kimberly Hébert Gregory, famous for playing the strong-willed principal in HBO’s “Vice Principals”, has passed away. She was 52 years old.
A cause of death was not immediately reported.
Gregory’s former husband, Chester Gregory, confirmed her death in an Instagram post.
He described her as a truly brilliant woman, noting that she illuminated every space with her intellect and carried herself with both strength and elegance. “So much more than just my ex-wife,” he continued, “you were a dear friend.” He added that their son-the beautiful creation they shared-serves as a lasting reminder of her radiant spirit-a living testament to her light.”
Walton Goggins, who recently gained recognition in “White Lotus” and previously worked with Gregory in the HBO series “Vice Principals” – which first aired in 2016 and ran for two seasons – was one of many actors who shared tributes on social media.
“We lost one of the greats yesterday… truly one of the best people I’ve ever collaborated with,” Goggins shared in an Instagram post. “It was a privilege… I felt incredibly lucky to have gotten to know and work with this amazing woman on Vice Principals for months.”
Others who remembered Gregory included Kym Whitley, Leslie Odom Jr. and Jason Ritter
On “Vice Principals,” Gregory played Dr. Belinda Brown, who frequently clashed with the other vice principals at the school: Neal Gamby (also a co-creator of the show, Danny McBride) and Lee Russell (played by Goggins).
In a review of “Vice Principals” for the Los Angeles Times, Robert Lloyd observed that Gregory’s character opens the door to potentially inappropriate humor-for example, Neal quips, “I’m pretty affirmative how she got in” when learning she attended Berkeley-but this aspect is secondary. Lloyd argues that, despite their scheming, these characters are, at their core, just foolish people.
Her other credits included TV’s “The Chi” and “All Rise.”
