Kimberley Walsh, 43, reveals the body part she once hated as she shares the exercises that helped her feel good in her skin after having three children

Kimberley Walsh shared that she used to be self-conscious about a certain part of her body, but a new workout plan has boosted her confidence and helped her feel comfortable in her own skin.

Sarah Harding, the former Girls Aloud singer, has been able to resume her fitness routine since her youngest son, Nate, started school. The 43-year-old told the Daily Mail she now goes to the gym three or four times a week.

The mother of three children – including sons Bobby, 11, and Cole, 8, with her husband Justin Scott – used to feel self-conscious about her arms and avoid showing them off at events. However, she’s gained confidence and learned to love her body through a new exercise program.

She stays in shape by working out with her Morning Live colleague, Gethin Jones, after the show, concentrating on building strength and lifting weights.

Kimberley recently shared her secrets to getting and staying in shape, explaining how she balances a demanding job, family life, and a healthy lifestyle to achieve her fitness goals.

I’ve finally been able to prioritize my own well-being over the past year. Before that, when Nate was younger and spent most of his time at home – he never went to nursery full-time – it was impossible for me to find time to exercise.

I’m focusing on using my free time to stay healthy and maintain my strength.

As a mom of three very active boys, I’m constantly on the go! Keeping up with their energy definitely motivates me to prioritize my own strength and health. I’ve really upped my workout game lately, and honestly, I’m loving it! It’s become a really positive part of my routine.

Kimberley revealed the workout routine that’s helped her achieve her fitness goals, and how often she exercises.

I prefer strength training – weights and reformer Pilates mostly – because I don’t enjoy cardio. It’s a great workout for people my age, and it really challenges your core. A lot of people underestimate how tough it actually is.

I used to be self-conscious about my arms and would cover them up. But I’ve been working really hard to get stronger, and I’m now comfortable showing them off. I’ve been doing a lot of heavy lifting to build muscle.

I usually work out three times a week, and sometimes I’ll fit in a fourth session. I always make sure to have weekends free for my kids, as I exercise while they’re at school, so it doesn’t interfere with our time together.

I mostly drive them around on weekends – to football, golf, parties, you name it. I just handle all their transportation with their hectic schedules.

Despite having to wake up early for her role on BBC’s Morning Live, the singer has managed to stick to her fitness plan. She’s even been working out with her co-host, Gethin, who’s become a great exercise buddy.

Kimberley commutes from her home in Surrey and spends the night in Manchester, where the studios are located, but she and her training partner still manage to keep up with their workout plan.

I just received a text from Gethin wondering if I want to train after the show. He’s noticed I’ve been working hard – I’m even getting up at 4:30 in the morning! But yeah, I’m happy to. Gethin is really in great shape.

Being on the show requires a lot of organization from me. Justin is fantastic at keeping things running smoothly, but I’m a bit of a perfectionist and like to ensure everything – like the uniforms – is prepared in advance. Careful planning is key for me.

Justin is wonderful, and while I don’t have much to worry about, I really miss my family. I just want to be home with them – I admit, I get homesick easily! Even though it’s a very early start, working on this show is a pleasure, and that’s why everyone travels to Manchester. I truly enjoy being there, so it makes the early mornings and travel worthwhile.

She explained that the daytime show, a competitor to ITV’s This Morning, has allowed her to become close friends with the hosts, who she relies on heavily in their group chat.

‘We’re all friends, and it’s the most amazing WhatsApp group you could ever have,’ she said.

This group has experts in almost any field – doctors, vets, financial advisors, you name it. I’m especially grateful for my friendship with Doctor Punam. Having children means you’re constantly looking for advice on something, and it’s great to have people like her to turn to.

Kimberley, known for appearing on the 2002 talent show Popstars: The Rivals, says she still works with the same people after 22 years, and her relationships with her Girls Aloud bandmates – Cheryl, Nadine Coyle, and Nicola Roberts – are as close as ever.

Girls Aloud reunited last month to support their friend Nicola Roberts at the opening night of the musical Hadestown. The singers, still grieving the loss of their bandmate Sarah Harding, who sadly died from breast cancer in 2021, celebrated with Nicola backstage, presenting her with flowers and taking a group selfie.

Kimberley described watching Nicola perform as a very proud moment, even though it felt odd seeing her on stage without the other members of the group.

Looking back on my life, I’m filled with a lot of pride. You begin to truly value what you’ve accomplished as you get older. I’m lucky to still be working with many of the same people I’ve known for over two decades, and it makes all our shared experiences even more meaningful.

No fan wants to see a band break up, and it’s amazing that we still feel connected to the music and each other.

It was wonderful watching Nicola perform – a really proud moment as her mother. It felt strange, though, because I hadn’t seen her step so far outside her usual style since we began playing music together. She was pursuing something completely new and separate from anything I knew about.

I was incredibly proud, almost overwhelmed with emotion. It felt like watching family succeed – like a mother watching her children or a sibling doing well. I’ve become very protective of these women; I think of them as my own, even though I know they aren’t related to me.

As a big fan, it’s so clear how much this former Strictly contestant cares – not just for the people she used to perform with, but especially for her kids. You can really feel the depth of her emotions when she talks about them both!

Kimberley says she got emotional watching her youngest son start school, but she’s even more touched by her oldest son beginning his last year of primary school.

She shared that her sons are showing a greater interest in creative pursuits like art than in traditional school subjects, and she believes schools should encourage all kinds of learning styles and talents.

My sons seem to be leaning towards artistic pursuits rather than academics, particularly my eldest. I truly believe in the importance of art and want to encourage him, as he’s clearly much happier when he’s making things.

My oldest son, Bobby, learns best through seeing things, so we’re focused on providing him with ways to express himself creatively. He’s matured a lot – being the oldest in his school has really helped him grow up. He’s not the little boy he used to be anymore.

This is a really emotional moment for me. Surprisingly, I felt more emotional about my older child finishing primary school than I did when my youngest started school.

It’s really tough thinking about Bobby starting high school. He learns differently than his brother and isn’t as focused on traditional academics, so I’m hoping his creativity will be appreciated and he’ll get a chance to excel there.

As one of four children herself, Kimberley admits she always imagined having a large family.

But now, after the arrival of Nate in 2021, she says she feels complete with her three sons.

‘It’s not a crazy question, but I’m not looking to have any more children,’ she confirmed.

Honestly, after Nate was born, I thought my family was complete. Three kids felt perfect. But now, watching them grow, I’m realizing how much each one needs – it’s not just about numbers, it’s about everything. I’m starting to feel completely spread thin, like I’m at my limit. I just want to give them all the best, but it’s… a lot.

I truly appreciate my three children, but I feel complete. I always imagined having four, as I grew up with three siblings, but I’ve realized raising that many kids is a big undertaking.

A West End performer is working with McDonald’s on a new Happy Meal box. It’s completely blank, so kids can draw and express their feelings.

A new campaign highlights the fact that many children – 42% – have trouble talking to adults about how they’re feeling. However, the research also shows that most children – 73% – feel more comfortable expressing their emotions through art and drawing.

Kimberley is one of the first people trying out the new program, and she plans to have her three sons design their own McDonald’s boxes to keep them entertained.

Starting Wednesday, November 5th, and running until Tuesday, November 18th, McDonald’s will offer almost four million special-edition boxes and crayons.

These special boxes were made with support from BBC Children in Need, McDonald’s charity partner, and Kimberley Walsh is fully behind the project.

McDonald’s is letting kids express their creativity with special Happy Meal boxes. These boxes have lots of room for drawing and letting imaginations run wild!

My kids, even my youngest at eleven, naturally gravitate towards a blank page and start creating art. Children of all ages can find joy in it. They all love artistic expression, and my oldest especially has always found a lot of direction and inspiration through it. Art truly is a remarkable and impactful outlet.
