Kim Kardashian is receiving criticism again after her daughter, North West, showed off a new piercing – her second one on a finger.
The young teen surprised her fans by posting a close-up picture of her hand, which featured several rings and two piercings in her fingers.
Photos show the woman wearing silver rings on one finger and a blue ring on another.
Unlike regular piercings that go through the skin, dermal or surface piercings use a tiny anchor placed under the skin to keep the jewelry secure.
As a lifestyle expert, I always want to be upfront about potential downsides, and with this procedure, there are definitely risks to consider. It’s especially important to be careful if you’re thinking about getting it done on your hands. Because hands are constantly exposed to bacteria, and move a lot, they’re more likely to experience rejection or infection. It’s something to really think through with your doctor.
Healthline notes that dermal piercings have a significant risk of problems and need very careful aftercare.

As a long-time enthusiast of body modification, I’ve noticed most professional piercing studios won’t do dermal piercings on anyone under 18. They usually explain it’s because of potential health and safety risks, and wanting to ensure everything stays clean and properly cared for – it’s just their way of protecting younger clients.
Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s daughter, North, recently got her ears pierced, and photos quickly spread online. The pictures sparked a debate on Reddit about whether her parents should have let her get the procedure at her age.
I often see parents trying so hard to be their child’s friend, and it can backfire. As someone who’s studied family dynamics for years, I’ve noticed it’s easy to lose sight of the important role of being a guiding, rational adult – and that’s where things can start to go wrong.
Someone else commented that they wouldn’t allow their 12-year-old to get piercings like these, particularly because of the potential risks and problems they can cause.
Others pointed out the potential medical risks.
This piercing carries a really high risk of serious problems like infection, rejection, or nerve damage. One person pointed out that a twelve-year-old simply isn’t responsible enough to properly care for it.
Many people also questioned Kardashian’s parenting style, claiming she seems to be giving North whatever she wants.
Getting dermal piercings on a twelve-year-old’s hand seems extreme. While I believe children should be able to express themselves, this feels like too much, especially at that age, said one parent.

Trist’n Peterson, a professional body piercer and co-owner of Brightside Body Art in Missoula, Montana, says dermal piercings are rarely done on anyone – almost never on minors, and even adults are discouraged from getting them.
According to Scary Mommy, most piercing shops won’t do surface piercings on anyone under 18. These piercings aren’t meant to be permanent; the body naturally pushes them out, which usually leaves a scar.
She only offers piercings for teens aged 13-18 in certain areas like earlobes, noses, septum, and ear cartilage – she doesn’t pierce fingers.
Finger surface piercings are rarely done, even on adults,” Peterson said. “Fingers move a lot throughout the day and are easily caught on things, which often leads to the piercing being rejected by the body.

It’s still unknown where North West got her piercings, and it’s also unclear if her parents, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, allowed it.
Many fans believe the piercing was likely done outside the U.S., because most American piercing shops won’t perform a dermal implant on someone under 18.
Despite the uproar, Kardashian and West have not addressed the backlash directly.
The Daily Mail has contacted representatives for the Kardashians but has not yet received a response.

Last month, the 44-year-old reality star faced criticism for allowing her daughter, North West, to wear a corset while they were in Rome.
Kardashian didn’t immediately respond to the criticism, but later explained that she’s still figuring things out as a mom, and North was simply trying out different styles to fit in with her friends.
Kim Kardashian explained on the Call Me Daddy podcast that it’s both challenging and fascinating how all the children are dressed alike.
Then my daughter tried it on, and I immediately regretted letting her, realizing it was a mistake. The problem is, it happened publicly for everyone to see.
She typically prefers a more masculine style of clothing, but she wanted to experiment with a look her friends were wearing. She went to the same store as them, and it became clear that the outfit might not be a good fit for her.

As a mom, you’re always learning as you go. I can definitely say my baby is a really good and sweet little girl.
She learns from her experiences, especially when she’s been direct or taken action.
She does hear what I say, but when it comes to things like her appearance, I let her do what makes her happy. Seeing her so joyful is important, and I’d never stifle her creativity.
When North West first showed off her bright blue hair, people online had mixed reactions, with some feeling the look wasn’t age-appropriate for someone so young.

Yet Kardashian revealed her daughter had seen the discourse and had a very sassy response.
Kardashian remembered her daughter being surprisingly mature, explaining that she once said, ‘Mom, I noticed that someone didn’t like my blue hair, but honestly, I don’t care.’
She’s very confident and openly judges others, saying she wouldn’t associate with certain people based on their appearance and style.
Kim Kardashian shared that as a parent, especially raising four children on her own, she’s simply trying her best, and she’s happy with how well-behaved her kids are.
Please be understanding and patient with single mothers raising pre-teens. It’s a really challenging time for them as they navigate everything.
