Kim Kardashian dons late Hollywood icon and jewel fanatic Elizabeth Taylor’s £270k diamond earrings on the runway – adding fire to morbid claims she is ‘obsessed with the dead’

Kim Kardashian maintained a vintage Hollywood elegance, sporting earrings once owned by a renowned figure from the past, following allegations that her fascination veered towards the deceased.

The 44-year-old fashion mogul, Skims, has a history of donning pieces previously owned by renowned celebrities who are no longer with us, ranging from Marilyn Monroe to Princess Diana.

On a Wednesday, Kim once more made an appearance, adorning jewelry previously owned by the late, celebrated figure, Elizabeth Taylor, which had been temporarily lent to her by Schwartz.

At Balenciaga’s fall 2025 haute couture presentation in Paris, a notable figure caught everyone’s attention with stunning chandelier-style earrings.

Reports indicate that Schwartz acquired the Mike Todd Diamond Pendant Earrings at an auction in 2011. The final selling price, as stated in Christie’s listing, was a staggering $374,500 (approximately £270,000).

Additionally, Kim chose to honor Taylor by donning a fitted slip dress with beige fabric and lace detail, reminiscent of one of Elizabeth’s costumes from the 1958 film “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” where she appeared alongside Paul Newman.

This was inspired by the white number the actress wore in 1958’s Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.

Last year, during her conversation with BBC, Kim expressed her longstanding fascination towards the late A-lister, Elizabeth Taylor. She stated, “I have always been attracted to Elizabeth Taylor.” Unfortunately, a planned meeting over tea at Taylor’s residence never materialized as Taylor became unwell.

It appears that Kim often shows a fondness for donning clothing once owned by deceased celebrities, and has even splurged tens of thousands of dollars on such garments from famous figures.

The creator of Skims previously confessed that she is deeply fascinated by auctions and has successfully passed on this enthusiasm to her family members. For instance, she bought her daughter North the hat Michael Jackson wore in his Smooth Criminal music video, and her brother Rob a collection of Elvis Presley’s rings.

At the 2024 LACMA Art + Film Gala, Kim’s appearance drew attention due to the noticeable Attallah Cross pendant she wore around her neck, which caught the eyes of many fans.

On various events, including a charity function in 1987, the expensive piece crafted by Garrard, featuring amethysts and diamonds, was donned by Princess Diana – a role once held by Garrard as the crown jeweler.

The amethyst and diamond artifact was named after its former owner, Naim Attallah – a Palestinian-British entrepreneur. He generously loaned this piece to Diana during the 1980s.

At the 1987 Birthright charity gala, Diana, often referred to as Princess Diana, was spotted adorning a pendant on a necklace of pearls. She paired this with a stunning purple velvet dress designed by Catherine Walker.

Originally crafted by Garrand in the 1920s, the Attallah Cross showcases a central arrangement of square-cut amethysts encircled by approximately 5.25 carats of brilliantly cut diamonds.

900 pearls adorned a necklace that the late Princess Diana wore to various events such as movie and theater premiers throughout her lifetime, until her passing in 1997. Notably, this is one of the few pieces of jewelry belonging to the princess that have ever been auctioned off.

In the year 2023, Kim acquired the Attallah Cross during a Sotheby’s auction at a price slightly below $200,000. However, she donned this piece for the very first time over the recent weekend.

In a more approachable manner,

She matched an old-fashioned piece with a deep-necked white dress – sparking criticism on social media, who labeled the mother-of-four as ‘out-of-touch’ regarding her fashion decision.

On more than one occasion, Kim has sported an item of clothing that was previously owned by a well-known celebrity who is no longer alive.

In the year 2022, Kim faced criticism when she wore the expensive “Happy Birthday Mr. President” dress originally belonging to Marilyn Monroe, valued at $4.8 million, during the Met Gala event.

A short while later, The Marilyn Monroe Collection alleged that she had caused damage to the crystal-embellished dress, claiming that some crystals were missing and others were dangling precariously.

During a particular episode of “The Kardashians,” Kim shared that she had earnestly requested the Ripley’s Believe It Or Not Museum to let her don the dress.

The gown was lent to her from museum staff, who have kept it in a climate-regulated space ever since its acquisition for an astounding $5 million in 2016.

The offer had initially been withdrawn over concerns Kim’s hips would damage the original dress.

‘Great care was taken to preserve this piece of pop culture history,’ Ripley’s said.

Based on insights from conservators, appraisers, and archivists, the main focus was preserving the pristine state of the garment. Interestingly, no adjustments were allowed for the original dress; instead, Kim wore a replica on the red carpet.

Many supporters voiced their opinions in the comments section, accusing the Marilyn Monroe Collection of potentially manipulating the ‘before and after’ pictures they posted, but it remained unverified if the images were authentic or not.

‘Missing so many crystals and those tears,’ one person wrote. ‘What a disaster!!’

Kim became the one who put on the gown for the first time since Marilyn Monroe wore it in 1962. She confessed that she shed 16 pounds in just three weeks to fit into the dress, yet she remained unable to fasten it.

Discussing her memorable outfit with Vogue, the celebrity emphasized that she wouldn’t dare put the dress in any danger. Consequently, she prepared an alternative choice to wear just in case something unexpected happened during the actual event.

She expressed great reverence towards the dress and its significance in American history, stating that she would not consider sitting on it, consuming food near it, or taking any action that could potentially harm it. Moreover, she mentioned she wouldn’t apply her usual type of body makeup when wearing it.

Kim admitted that she followed a very strict diet for three weeks, eliminating carbohydrates and sugar from her meals, so she could fit into the dress for the Met Gala.

She mentioned that she would put on a sauna suit twice daily, use the treadmill extensively, eliminate all sugar, carbohydrates, and opt for only the purest vegetables and proteins as her diet. However, she didn’t resort to starvation but followed a very strict regimen instead.

During that period, people on social media were critical of Kim for wearing clothing reminiscent of the past, specifically comparing her to Marilyn Monroe’s iconic dress. This was due to Kim’s habit of buying expensive items from auctions.

On Instagram during the 2019 Christmas season, Kim disclosed that she and her ex-spouse, Kanye West, presented their daughter North with a jacket once owned by Michael Jackson as a gift.

In 2019, Kim acquired both a hat and a jacket previously owned by Jackson at a California auction. Remarkably, the jacket still bore traces of his makeup.

The pampering parents won the jacket worn by the Bad singer at auction for $65,625 that October.

The jacket was worn by the late pop-star for Elizabeth Taylor’s 65th birthday party in 1997.

Kim stated, “For Christmas, we acquired a piece from an auction called ‘Northie’ and hung it up so she could put it on.

Kanye and I gifted North with a jacket that once belonged to Michael Jackson, who wore it with Elizabeth Taylor. This information was revealed to my many followers on social media.

‘North is a really big Michael Jackson fan and we knew she would love this.’

The sleeves have been partially sewn, allowing us to remove the stitches as she grows older. In this way, the garment can expand with her growth, potentially lasting her entire lifetime.

Kim mentioned that her then-six-year-old daughter was extremely thankful for her early Christmas gift. ‘She’s incredibly grateful and overjoyed,’ she expressed.

The estimated selling price of the jacket had been between $10,000 and $20,000.

Kim likewise acquired the authentic, iconic white fedora that Michael wore in the memorable music video for his popular track “Smooth Criminal”.

In a post on her Instagram story, Kim captioned a photo: ‘North now owns Michael’s Smooth Criminal Hat, which still bears his makeup.’

In a TikTok video they share, North donned the hat later on, emulating the iconic look of the Thriller singer, Michael Jackson.

Kim has additionally surpassed other collectors in bidding prices for clothing and jewelry from auctions featuring items previously owned by Elizabeth Taylor and Elvis.

In a recent purchase, she acquired a collection of bracelets priced at $64,900 that were designed by Elizabeth. Furthermore, for Christmas, she also picked out some rings once owned by Elvis Presley to give as a gift to her brother Rob.

At Christmas, since my brother is a huge fan of Elvis Presley, I bought him two of his rings,” Kim excitedly shared.

The first ring, featuring an awe-inspiring ruby, was won at auction by Kim for $7K.

The second Elvis-worn ring went for $8K and was decorated with a row of sparkling diamonds.

Kardashian tagged Julien’s Auctions, thanking them for her hefty purchases.

In 2017, she paid $379,500 for Jackie Kennedy’s watch.
