Kim Cattrall Spills Why She Kept Samantha Jones at Arm’s Length—And SATC Fans Are Divided

Kim Cattrall explains the reason behind maintaining a distinct boundary between herself and her “Sex and the City” character, Samantha Jones, throughout their association.

During an interview at the luxurious five-star hotel The Dorchester in London, Kim exuded elegance as she showcased various outfits for the photo shoot by Grazia magazine.

The 68-year-old actress commented that it was difficult for people to distinguish her real persona from the character she portrays, as she found herself frequently being mistaken for Samantha’s wardrobe choices not reflecting her personal style.

To prevent any misunderstanding, Kim took great care to establish a distinct boundary between herself and Samantha.

She mentioned that she didn’t hold onto much of Samantha’s wardrobe as it didn’t suit her personality. She realized right away that some people were puzzled or annoyed, wondering why she didn’t adopt more of Samantha’s style.

‘There is a very clear line for me in my professional life.’

Kim revealed she often gave away some of Samantha’s outfits to charity and her family and friends. 

The well-known actress additionally touched upon the ‘excessive’ beauty expectations that many women encounter throughout their lifetimes.

She expressed: ‘Initially, I find it complete nonsense. Moreover, I’m too busy to deal with it. The idea that one should appear decades younger is impractical, regardless of all the treatments, surgeries, technologies, routines, diets, and regimens available. It’s unrealistic.’

Why do you insist on confining yourself from the start? I, too, desire to appear attractive, who wouldn’t? However, I aspire to feel just as good as I look, and it’s my prerogative to achieve this in my own unique way. It’s none of anyone else’s concern.

Supporters of Sex and the City found themselves deeply split by the debut trailer for the contentious sequel, And Just Like That.

Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, and Cynthia Nixon have returned to their cherished characters of Carrie Bradshaw, Charlotte York, and Miranda Hobbes once more.

Jon Corbett reappears once more, portraying Carrie’s former boyfriend Aidan, a role he previously embodied in the initial series, earning the affection of many viewers.

In the second season of “And Just Like That”, Aidan made an appearance. His character, alongside Carrie’s, tried to rekindle their past relationship, but ultimately found themselves parting ways once more.

Despite their recent split, there’s a hint of optimism as Aidan makes another appearance in the newest trailer, keeping a faint spark of their relationship alive.

On social media, the sneak peek sparked mixed responses, with ardent fans of the initial series expressing intense frustration over a significant absence that stood out.

In a more casual rewording, we can say that the character Samantha, played by Kim Cattrall, who was one of the main characters in Sex and the City, has yet to appear in the new series And Just Like That.

Following numerous speculations about her strained relationships with the initial cast members, it’s worth noting that Kim decided against rejoining the ensemble for the subsequent series.

In season two, there was a quick scene where Samantha made a call to Carrie from London, implying that Kim wasn’t present during the main filming sessions with the rest of the cast.

Towards the close of season two, Aidan decides to part ways with Carrie and move to Virginia with their kids, intending to stay there until they reach adulthood, approximately five years from then.

After Aidan managed to return to New York, Carrie and him had intentions of rekindling their relationship. In the preview, they put in extra effort to maintain the flame between them.

Aidan mails a postcard to Carrie and also pays her a visit in New York City. However, his romantic gesture of throwing a pebble at her window backfires as it breaks the glass instead, causing her alarm.

Simultaneously, Charlotte and her attorney spouse Henry (Evan Hander) find themselves engrossed in managing their daughters Lily (Caty Ang) and Rose (Alexa Swinton), while Miranda persists in delving into her queer identity within the city of New York.

Everyone was eagerly anticipating seeing Queen Kim Cattrall in the trailer.

Another viewer responded by sharing a GIF featuring Kim and querying, “Where is Samantha?” while others voiced similar questions, such as, “Why isn’t Samantha there.

In general, the response among fans was divided, with many showing indifference. For instance, one user from X commented on the trailer’s post with a GIF of RuPaul expressing a casual ‘mehhh.’

One viewer commented, “I’m not impressed… I’m disappointed,” and another said, “It’s clear that nobody is invested anymore – they messed it up too much.” (This version maintains the original sentiment while using more natural and conversational language.)

One person commented: “I think this is much improved over the first two seasons,” while another countered: “I find this even less appealing compared to the earlier seasons, something I didn’t anticipate.

A different social media user expressed frustration about Carrie’s ongoing love life, commenting: “Ten years on, it seems Aidan is still uncertain for you, dear Carrie. Maybe it’s time to move on?

The third season kicks off on May 29th, featuring some exciting new faces such as Rosie O’Donnell and legendary Broadway performer, Patti LuPone.
