Kim Basinger Opens Up About Co-Parenting with Alec Baldwin After 18 Years of Drama!

18 years after the public release of Alec Baldwin’s controversial voicemail to his daughter, Ireland, Kim Basinger has commended her former husband, acknowledging they share a strong and positive relationship.

From 1993 until 2002, these former spouses were wed, and more recently, they have become grandparents. Their daughter Ireland, now 29 years old, has given birth to a child named Holland with her partner RAC.

Despite experiencing a rocky marriage in the past, the duo currently enjoy a significantly improved bond. In a recent conversation with Variety, Basinger, aged 71, expressed her high regard for Baldwin, also 66, expressing that she holds him in ‘great respect’.

Alec and I share a strong bond. I hold him in high regard, not just for who he is now, but also for his loved ones. Interestingly, we don’t typically celebrate holidays together or meet often. However, we do keep in touch through conversations.

She stated, “He’ll give me a call on the phone, and our bond is truly warm and affectionate, perhaps even loving in many aspects, due to our shared daughter. I wish him nothing but the best. He’s been going through a tough time recently,” she implied, possibly alluding to the demise of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.

On October 21, 2021, during a rehearsal, Alec Baldwin, the lead actor and co-producer, mistakenly discharged a gun that he was handling, which unfortunately resulted in the death of cinematographer Hutchins and injured director Joel Souza. The case related to this unfortunate incident involving involuntary manslaughter was dismissed last year.

Afterward, Basinger commended Hilaria Baldwin, stating, ‘It seems Hilaria has a good grasp of it all. Here’s wishing her continued success.’

18 years ago, almost to the day, Alec’s heated voice message to Ireland, who was 11 at the time, occurred following her failure to pick up the phone when she knew Alec would be calling from New York.

In a leaked recording, the actor known for “It’s Complicated” was heard calling his daughter disrespectful names such as “a thoughtless, impolite little pig,” and expressing that she lacked both intelligence and basic human decency.

He continued: ‘Your age – whether it’s 12, 11, or anything else – doesn’t matter to me. Nor does it matter if you’re a child, or that your mother is perceived as thoughtless and inconsiderate about your actions.’

Once more, I’ve embarrassingly struggled to reach a phone. Please, let this be the last instance where you make me feel mortified due to phones.

The message had surfaced during a bitter custody battle between he and ex wife Kim Basinger. 

Kim stated that she didn’t disclose the recording, and in a released declaration, her representative clarified that the voicemail wasn’t protected by a court order.

Following the disclosure of the message, Alec issued an apology on his website for his outburst, stressing that he shares a typical, normal relationship with Ireland.

‘I have a normal relationship with my daughter,’ he wrote. 

‘I’m sorry, as everyone who knows me is aware, for losing my temper with my child,’ he added. 

For decades, I’ve found myself pushed to my limits by the heart-wrenching experience of family estrangement, a phenomenon known as parental alienation. It’s almost incomprehensible unless you’re unfortunate enough to live it. I sincerely hope no one ever has to endure what I’ve gone through. I apologize for the pain that’s been caused.

Since then, the pair have moved past their dispute, and in 2015, Ireland humorously acknowledged the matter by posting a picture on social media showing her and her father enjoying a children’s book titled “If I Were A Pig.

As a Lifestyle Expert, I’d rephrase that post like this: “In my imaginary life as a pig, I might forget manners and act thoughtlessly!” The snout emoji remains to add a playful touch.

Ireland also poked fun at the voicemail two years later during a Spike roast of her father.

She mentioned they are currently in a significantly improved situation, adding that he wouldn’t utter such words – given the fact that I stand at 6 feet 2 inches tall, I could easily confront him physically.

In 2017 Alec revealed it caused a ‘permanent’ break in their relationship.

It appeared he wasn’t using ‘break’ to imply they’ve separated, but rather, he conveyed to George Stephanopoulos on Good Morning America that the situation would constantly remind them of each other, as he put it, “It’s something you are confronted with daily.

After the controversy had passed, Alec got married to his wife Hilaria in 2012. Together they have seven children: Carmen Gabriela who is 11 years old, Rafael Thomas aged nine, Leonardo Angel Charles who is eight, Romeo Alejandro David who is six, Eduardo Pao Lucas who is four, Maria Lucia ‘Lulu’ Victoria also four, and Ilaria Catalina Irena who is two.

Alec Baldwin is shifting his focus from scripted television to reality shows, involving his entire family. Their latest reality series, titled “The Baldwins,” made its debut on the TLC network.
