Killer cakes: Watch the bloody trailer for Matthew Lillard-hosted Halloween bake-off
As a fan who’s seen more horror movies than Hitchcock and binged more baking shows than Buddy Valastro himself, I can confidently say that Killer Cakes is shaping up to be the ultimate Halloween treat. With its star-studded cast, including Matthew Lillard, Danielle Harris, and Nikki Alcarez, this series promises a delightful blend of terror and confectionery artistry that’s sure to leave viewers on the edge of their seats (or couches) and craving for more.
In the official trailer for the Amazon Prime Video series “Killer Cakes,” a Halloween special featuring two parts, viewers can expect to see food items like edible maggots and explosive cakes, along with many other surprises. The series is hosted by popular horror movie actor Matthew Lillard, known for his roles in “Scream” and “Five Nights at Freddy’s,” and will be available on Amazon Prime Video starting this October.
In the trailer, it’s evident that the special competition demands contestants to craft spooky cakes, with their flavors being judged alongside the cake’s effects and gore. If you’re hooked on Food Network shows like “Halloween Baking Championship” and “Halloween Wars”, then “Killer Cakes” should undoubtedly be your first pick for viewing!
Beyond Lillard, Killer Cakes also includes two judges: Danielle Harris, a familiar face to horror fans from the Halloween and Hatchet series, and Nikki Alcarez, an author of cookbooks and a food artist known for her experimental creations (as seen in Peculiar Baking). This series is another collaboration between Blumhouse Television and Amazon MGM Studios.
Amazon has revealed the list of baking contestants:
- Amanda Yother: Rathdrum, ID
- Dillon Barlow: Houston, TX
- Dziedra “Z” Brusberg: Marysville, WA
- Deadra “Dee” Compean: Beaumont, TX
- Eszter Summerlin: Gulf Breeze, FL
- Jesse Lesser: Dallas, TX
- Mark Lie: Chicago, IL
- Shanelle Long: Pensacola, FL
The bakers at “Killer Cakes” are set to battle it out for a grand prize of $20,000. However, these aren’t your typical cakes; each team will be tasked with creating something extraordinary and gory. They’ll benefit from the expertise of two renowned Hollywood special effects artists, Tom Woodruff, known for films like “Smile” and “Aliens”, and Ashley Levy, who has worked on movies such as “Insidious: The Red Door” and “Happy Death Day”.
From the preview, it seems they plan on creating quite a spectacle with their cakes, such as exploding them, producing slime and even fake blood from them. Here’s hoping these eye-catching creations don’t compromise on flavor!
Both episodes of Killer Cakes will drop on Prime Video on October 8.
