Major spoilers ahead for Killer Cakes

Killer Cakes spoilers: Which team takes home the Golden Knife?

Which team wins the first challenge?

For the initial contest, teams of two bakers will each design a cake representing their creative vision of a terrifying movie villain. These cakes should exhibit movement and either bleed or ooze in some manner. Additionally, the teams are tasked with crafting a weapon that judges can use to symbolically “destroy” the cake.

  • Amanda & Dziedra: Killer trapped in a chest freezer after falling inside with his victims, they make a hatchet to break the lock; Taste: Brown sugar bourbon cake with raspberry peach coulis
  • Mark & Jesse: Skinsuit killer strapped to an electric chair that sparks and fries him, weapon is a flaying knife to stab him; Taste: Chocolate roulade cake with smoked with chocolate and caramel mousse, plus some honeycomb filler
  • Dill & Dee: Slaughterhouse killer, a pig’s head on a human body with a circle saw inside to cut through his guts, weapon is a meat hook; Taste: Peanut butter and bacon cake with chocolate ganache icing
  • Shanelle & Ezster: A killer siren luring sailors to their deaths, weapon is a harpoon; Taste: Coconut cake with salted caramel, pineapple filling with some mango boba

The victors from the initial contest are Mark and Jesse, who left the judges awestruck by the exceptional effects and dedication put into designing their innovative skinsuit-killer and electric chair.

Regrettably, it’s Shanelle/Ezster and Amanda/Dziedra who are in the bottom two. The judges decided to eliminate Amanda/Dziedra from the competition since they felt that their project, the icebox killer, seemed incomplete and the special effects lacked depth.

And the winner is…

In the second episode and the climactic phase of the contest, Lillard briefs the last six bakers (three teams) about their upcoming task: creating a cake that appears possessed. This cake should exhibit some aspect of possession and should also appear to vomit.

  • Dill & Dee: They create a contorted patient who gets possessed and eats a kid; Taste: Sour apple cake with vanilla buttercream and the vomit is an apple-y side sauce
  • Shanelle & Ezster: Swamp witch in the bayou performing a ritual to gain the power of an alligator she sacrificed, cool pulsing heart that shoots blood; Taste: Black cocoa chocolate cake with spicy raspberry filling and pistachio buttercream
  • Mark & Jesse: Timmy’s giant possessed birthday cake comes to life with moving eyes and hands, this one has the best vomit of all in that it actually shoots out and hits Nikk in the face; Taste: Cake is coconut with chili lime salt, coconut curd, and mango filling

Shanelle and Esther were the first to be removed from the competition, as the judges believed that their witch-themed cake wasn’t sufficiently scaled and didn’t quite meet the caliber of the other two creations.

The victors have been declared as Dill and Dee. They received the Golden Knife trophy along with a prize money of $20,000. I find myself feeling let down by this outcome, as I believed Mark and Jesse’s cake was far superior in terms of cleanliness, intricate detailing, compelling narrative, and special effects. Their creation outshone Dill and Dee’s entry, which seemed rather ordinary in comparison.

Killer Cakes is now streaming on Prime Video.
