As a dedicated listener and admirer of the dynamic duo, Jason ‘Jase’ Hawkins and Lauren Phillips, I find myself utterly captivated by their remarkable journey. The way they have risen from the ashes of adversity to claim victory over their rivals is nothing short of inspiring.

After losing his radio slot to Kyle and Jackie O on KIIS FM, Jason “Jase” Hawkins has announced he will no longer tune in to their show.

Last year, Jason and his fellow actor, Lauren Phillips, were taken aback when their morning program in Melbourne was canceled to allow Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson to broaden their show from Sydney into the city.

In the midst of fierce competition, the Jase and Lauren Show, broadcast on competing station Nova FM, has been recognized as Melbourne’s most popular morning radio show.

Although the duo achieved the pinnacle of success by leading the Melbourne radio charts, Jason pays little heed to his competitors – as their program is deemed unsuitable for children.

‘I was in the car the other day, it was the weekend and their best (Kyle & Jackie O’s) of was on and I just turned it off straight away‘ he tells the Herald Sun.

On our drive to sports, within just a few moments, I found myself listening to something inappropriate for the kids. Consequently, regardless of my personal preference, I ended up having no choice but to avoid listening further.

Jason shared that he felt extremely moved when he saw the ratings, which represented a significant victory for him and Lauren over the influential figures in the radio industry.

He mentioned that, over time, it seemed as though our presence in the market wasn’t given due respect since we aren’t well-known television personalities, retired soccer stars, or other high-profile celebrities.

We’ve often felt like minnows swimming among larger fish, with others not taking us seriously as major competitors. However, now it feels like our presence has been validated, and we truly belong.

Jason earlier revealed the toll the process took on him and Lauren.

Last year, I was quite disorganized towards its end,” said Jase to The Project. “You all are aware of how unpredictable our industry can be.

In many sectors, it’s scarcely found to have a team that works harmoniously and produces something you can truly be proud of. For me, having such a team was a rare gem, and when things came to an end, I felt as though our best work was yet to come.

Lauren added her thoughts: “It seems like we believed that our fairy tale was having a second opportunity and attending Nova.

Today feels like an extra sweet reward. We handled our loss with dignity. We took to heart that we were surpassed by something supposedly superior to us. Hearing that you’re not up to the mark can stir determination within, and that’s exactly what it did for her. She emphasized this point further.

‘Today’s been a nice day for us to get to number one. To celebrate with the team.’

When asked about their rivals Kyle and Jackie ‘O’, the pair were humble and graceful.

Jase mentioned, “We’ve been focusing on our own journey all along. The buzz around the Melbourne radio competition is everywhere. However, we’ve been doing our own thing.

In simpler terms, the comedy talk show has been awarded the top position in the recently published GFK’s 5th radio ratings survey for 2024.

Jase and Lauren’s well-liked show saw an increase of 0.3 points and climbed to 9.9% of the viewership, placing it comfortably ahead of competitors The Kyle and Jackie O Show.

On their debut in Melbourne on April 29th, Kyle and Jackie O found themselves trailing behind other shows with a 6.1% listenership share, making them the fifth most popular breakfast radio program in the city.

Despite being newcomers, Kyle and Jackie O saw a small increase in Melbourne’s television ratings, climbing from 5.9% to 6.1%.

In April, Kyle and Jackie O moved their morning radio program to Melbourne as part of an expansive, multi-million dollar agreement, resulting in the termination of Jase and Lauren’s breakfast show on KIIS FM.

At that moment, an unrestrained Kyle expressed his nonchalance about his rivals getting let go, since it boiled down to who had the most listeners’ attention.

He stated to news.com.au that since Jase and Lauren on KIIS FM didn’t manage to rank higher than fourth in the radio ratings, we decided to move on and choose Melbourne instead. In other words, their underperformance didn’t concern us.

Despite being beaten in the Melbourne ratings, The Kyle and Jackie O Show once again helped KIIS FM claim the top spot as the city’s most listened to radio station.

The popular breakfast show attracted a weekly cumulative audience of 750,000 listeners across Sydney – up by over 50,000 people from the prior survey.
