As a lifestyle expert with a knack for spotting unique career transitions, I must say that Corey Oates’ move from professional football to breakfast radio is nothing short of inspiring. His journey from the field to the airwaves showcases an individual who is not afraid to challenge the status quo and embrace new opportunities.

Corey Oates has officially joined the Robin and Kip KIIS 97.3 FM breakfast team.

For about 30 years now, the ex-Bronco has become a frequent face on the Brisbane program since last October, featuring in the humorous “Helping Corey Find a Job” segment.

After a shocking change in his professional life, Oates made this move following the well-known football player’s announcement that he would be retiring from the National Rugby League (NRL) after playing 216 games in October.

On Monday, he mentioned to his audience that he had once pondered a career as a golfer, later revealing his recent job change.

He playfully mentioned his affection for golf, but admitted that he had considered taking it up himself. However, a friend dismissed the idea, leaving golf as something he can only enjoy spectating.

‘So I’ve decided to stay with you guys. What do you reckon?’

Co-host Kip Wightman replied: ‘As a breakfast announcer, there will be plenty of time for golf.’

The proprietors of KIIS FM ARN have disclosed that the football legend will continue broadcasting throughout the remainder of this year, as a permanent member of the morning crew. In the New Year of 2025, the team of three will be back on the air.

Meanwhile, the show has been rebranded as ‘Robin & Kip now with Corey Oates in the morning’.

Over the past few weeks, Oates gained hands-on experience in various jobs, such as air traffic controlling, real estate, counseling, and retail sales, which he discussed on the Breakfast Show’s ‘Find Corey a Job’ segment.

Another well-known NRL player, who’s also popular in football, has recently landed a gig at KIIS FM, joining the ranks of other high-profile players.

24-year-old former Sea Eagles champion, Cooper Johns, revealed that he will be joining the team for The Kyle and Jackie O Show in 2024.

At the conclusion of the 2023 season, Cooper, who is 24 years old, temporarily put away his football shoes since Manly chose not to renew his contract.

When the Kyle and Jackie O Show resumed broadcasting in January, Jackie wondered aloud why Cooper had a dedicated workstation within their studio.

‘We’re not sure what he does yet, but we’ve just secured his services,’ replied Sandilands.

We brought in Coops since I believed he was exceptionally talented. We had some concerns and felt it was important to ensure he joined us, so we made the decision to sign him.

It comes after KIIS FM suffered upheaval to its on air lineup last week.

On Wednesday afternoon, Presenter Mitch Churi emotionally shared with his audience that he had been let go by the network.

During a poignant moment on their radio show at KIIS FM, the popular host, who worked alongside Laura Byrne and Brittany Hockley, found himself struggling with emotions as he shared some deeply sad news with his fellow hosts.

A week ago, I learned from those in charge that my position here won’t be continuing after 2025, as Mitch put it.

Mitch then revealed he was blindsided by the decision, and he wished it had not come to this.

‘Let me clarify, I didn’t make that choice or have control over it. In truth, I wanted to continue on the show with both of you and remain part of the KIIS family.’

Laura Byrne, aged 38, chimed in to express that she and Laura are wholeheartedly backing Mitch and sending their warmest wishes for his future endeavors.

Laura expressed, “The performance isn’t what we hoped for the show. This choice wasn’t in our hands; it was made independently. Unfortunately, Britt and I must carry on with the show without your presence, and we are deeply saddened by this.

‘You are not only our co-host but also one of our best friends,’ Brittany chipped in.

It’s good news that Mitch won’t be leaving his audience soon, as he is scheduled to continue broadcasting till the end of this year.

On Wednesday, Laura and Brittany were seen standing by Mitch when he left the KIIS FM studios in North Sydney following the surprising announcement.

The radio presenters looked emotional as they embraced Mitch while walking him out of the studio.

He had hosted The Night Show with Mitch Churi since 2019, and co-hosted The Pick Up with Laura and Brittany.

The paper claims the decision was made for ‘financial reasons’, and Mitch, who has not been on the air since Thursday, received the bad news on Tuesday.
