Khalid owns coming out as gay after he alleges he was outed: 'I was never hiding'

As a movie lover with a penchant for biopics and coming-of-age stories, I find Khalid’s journey both poignant and inspiring. His courage to openly express his sexuality, albeit under unexpected circumstances, serves as a beacon of hope for many in the LGBTQ+ community who are still grappling with their identities.

It’s not surprising or groundbreaking that R&B artist Khalid has shared about his sexuality.

On a series of tweets posted on Friday, the Grammy-nominated artist behind “Location,” Khalid, played down his recent announcement about being gay. He stated that someone had revealed his sexuality before him and he was “outed.” After confirming his identity, Khalid wrote, “life goes on as usual.

He boldly declared, “I have no embarrassment about my sexuality!” Then, addressing his online community, he emphasized, “My sexual orientation is not something for others to pry into or discuss.

Previously on Friday, Khalid posted a pride flag emoji along with the text “there yall go. next topic please lol.” In another tweet, the 26-year-old artist responded to a fan by saying, “I am gay! And that’s perfectly fine.”)

A musician known as “Young Dumb & Broke” recently announced he is openly gay, following another singer’s posts on Twitter suggesting a personal relationship between them and Khalid. According to Rolling Stone, Hugo Almonte posted a picture with Khalid and claimed that the artist had lied about him breaking into his house.

In an interview with the magazine, Almonte stated that his intention was not to expose anyone, but rather to tell his own story and explain how he attempted to abuse his power to silence me after our relationship ended. Although he did not mention Khalid by name, Almonte also claimed that he has received death threats and insisted that his tweets about the singer were not a ploy for attention or fame.

Following his revelation through Twitter posts, Khalid interacted with fans who had suspected he was gay earlier. One fan mentioned how his secret was more like a transparent closet, while another posted dance clips from the music video of his 2022 song “Satellite,” referring to it as an “anthem for the LGBTQ community.

I was never hiding,” he replied to the latter.

On Friday, Khalid expressed appreciation to his fans for their support and affection. Additionally, he mentioned he might pause his musical endeavors temporarily, stating that he doesn’t want people to think he’s exploiting this situation for financial gain.

Khalid, originally known as Khalid Robinson, gained prominence in 2017 with his heartfelt song “Location.” Since then, he has put out four studio albums including his most recent one titled “Sincere.” Additionally, he has teamed up with Shawn Mendes, H.E.R., and Billie Eilish (who previously admitted being ‘outed’ too), as well as other musicians, on various projects.

In an interview with The Times back in 2017, Khalid, who was only 19 then, expressed that he discovered his musical and songwriting voice. His first album, “American Teen,” aimed to portray an authentic reflection of him as an individual, as he stated at the time.

He mentioned that he intended for it to encompass a wide range of diverse elements, reflecting his own versatile nature. It also touches upon various aspects, crossing multiple boundaries.
