Keys crushed: Gaimin Gladiators and Aurora Gaming exit the Dota 2 Esports World Cup tournament

On the first day of the Esports World Cup playoffs, the teams Gaimin Gladiators and Aurora Gaming saw their chances dashed when they were eliminated from the Dota 2 tournament.

Today marks the resumption of the Esports World Cup Dota 2 tournament, but heartbreak awaited four teams vying for a place in the semifinals: Gaimin Gladiators, Team Spirit, Aurora Gaming, and PARIVISION. Sadly, due to the knockout stage format, only two could advance.

Despite playing a “best-of-three” format, each team was just one lost series short of being eliminated.

Top 8 and a dream: Gaimin Gladiators and Aurora Gaming eliminated

As the victorious team from the Riyadh Masters 2024, GG aimed to retain their title. But first, they faced Team Spirit as their initial adversary. In the opening stages of the game, GG was playing exceptionally well, controlling the map effectively. Marcus “Ace” Hoelgaard on Axe was a force to reckon with, constantly outplaying his opponents. With a massive 29k net worth advantage, GG seemed poised for victory. However, Spirit refused to concede defeat and capitalized on a significant error by GG.

In the course of the games, Spirit clinched the first win, causing GG to regroup. However, when Marci was drafted by GG once more for game two, it didn’t yield nearly as much power. Instead, Spirit had solidified their strategies, and they pushed back GG with strength, resulting in a commanding 2-0 victory.

In the initial round of the Dota 2 EWC, the teams that advanced to Game 3 were Aurora and PARIVSION. The first game was a lopsided victory for PV as they decimated Aurora. During this match, Alan “Satanic” Gallyamov’s Sven dominated the scoreboard with an impressive 6 kills, while his opponents managed to secure only a handful. However, the tide turned in Game 2, where Gleb “kiyotaka” Zyryanov’s Shadowfiend outperformed PV. It didn’t take long for the series to become tied, setting up a decisive final game to determine which team would advance.

Regrettably, for Aurora, the momentum from an impressive Game 2 didn’t carry over to Game 3. Despite a promising draft, they struggled immensely against a formidable PV. Their kill count remained dismally low at 6, effectively dashing their chances of winning the EWC.

The first two semi-finalists lock in

In summary, Aurora Gaming and Gaimin Gladiators were knocked out of the Dota 2 tournament at the Esports World Cup, their run ending in the top 8 round. Meanwhile, Team Spirit and PARIVISION advanced to the top 4 and the semi-finals, where they will clash on July 18th.

Firstly, let me inform you about some upcoming events. On July 17th, we’ll witness two matches that lead to elimination: The BetBoom Team will face off against Tundra Esports, and an exciting clash between Team Liquid and Team Falcons is scheduled for the quarterfinals.
