Kevin Feige recently opened up about Marvel Studios’ changes in the choice of their next significant villain during the Multiverse Saga and beyond. In a recent media interview, he delved into the initial move to swap out Kang the Conqueror, the emergence of Doctor Doom as the primary antagonist, and how the Fox acquisition influenced the future of the MCU.

In simpler terms, Kevin Feige, a film producer, stated that even before the legal issues involving actor Jonathan Majors, it had become apparent to them that the villain Kang was not Thanos. He explained further that there was only one character who could fill this role because he had been portrayed as such in comic books for many years and due to a studio acquisition, they finally had the rights to this character, and that is Dr. Doom.

Before the release of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania in 2023, Feige admitted that discussions about swapping Kang for Dr. Doom were already in progress. He mentioned, “We had already begun discussing Dr. Doom, even before we fully shifted our focus from Kang.” Furthermore, he shared that he had previously discussed this bold concept with Robert Downey Jr. about Ant-Man 3, long before its release.

Marvel Studios is focusing more on a smaller number of top-tier projects, while lessening the interconnectedness between films and television shows. Feige discussed delaying Blade’s production to refine its script, and he confirmed that it continues in development with Mahershala Ali still set to star and the storyline now taking place in modern times.

The forthcoming movie titled “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” is slated to be a self-contained film that doesn’t require any prior knowledge, kickstarting Phase Six in cinemas, according to Feige. Marvel has outlined its plan up until 2032, and the films lined up include “Spider-Man: Brand New Day”, “Avengers: Doomsday”, and “Secret Wars”.
