Kevin Feige confirms Fantastic Four: First Steps wraps “next week,” teases mutants in the MCU

As a seasoned cinema enthusiast with over three decades of film-watching under my belt, I must say that the future of Marvel is as bright as ever. The upcoming introduction of the Fantastic Four is a testament to Kevin Feige’s unwavering vision and dedication to delivering exceptional storytelling.

The characters from The Fantastic Four have been hinted at in the Marvel Cinematic Universe on multiple occasions. John Krasinski made an unexpected appearance as Mister Fantastic in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” while Chris Evans has recently taken up his role as Johnny Storm, which he reprised in both “Deadpool” and “Wolverine.

I won’t be a part of the main Fantastic Four team in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but that role is taken by Pedro Pascal (as Reed Richards), Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm), Vanessa Kirby (Susan Storm), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Thing). They’re set to make their debut in “Fantastic Four: First Steps” in Summer 2025, marking the start of Phase 6 for the MCU.

At the Disney APAC Content Showcase, Kevin Feige expressed his excitement for an upcoming Marvel film, mentioning that filming will be completed in just a short while. “At last, we’re introducing Marvel’s First Family to the MCU,” Feige shared. “They’ll finish shooting next week, the movie is due out the following summer, and once it’s released, these characters will immediately join the upcoming Avengers films. I’m genuinely thrilled about the future of the Fantastic Four.

Avengers: Secret Wars will be the catalyst for mutants in the MCU

Feige likewise talked about the gradual integration of mutants into the series. Indeed, adored mutants have surfaced across the MCU, but so far, a live-action X-Men team hasn’t assembled yet. Regarding when mutants will dominate the scene, Feige points to the upcoming Avengers film “Secret Wars” as a pivotal moment for their rise.

I think you will see that continues in our next few movies with some X-Men players that you might recognize. Right after that, the whole story of Secret Wars really leads us into a new age of mutants and of the X-Men. Again, [it’s] one of those dreams come true. We finally have the X-Men back.

The highly-anticipated movie “Secret Wars” is scheduled for release on May 6, 2027. Prior to that date, fans can look forward to the Avengers joining forces in the upcoming film “Avengers: Doomsday,” which is due for release in 2026. After a successful two-decade run by Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, a new actor will step into the role, and everyone is eager to find out who they’ll be.
