While still working on his western film, “Horizon: An American Saga,” Kevin Costner is now involved in another lawsuit related to the movie’s production.
Western Costume Co. filed a lawsuit against Kevin Costner and the production companies of his western series on Monday, alleging they haven’t paid for costumes and that some items were damaged during the filming of the second episode.
According to the complaint, the defendants didn’t pay for or properly return around $134,000 worth of rented costumes. The complaint states that the costumes are expensive to replace if lost or damaged, and the defendants either had no good reason for not paying or didn’t care about the consequences of their actions.
I was really surprised to hear that Western Costume, you know, the place that provides costumes for tons of movies and TV shows, is suing someone for around $440,000. Apparently, they filed a lawsuit on Monday in Los Angeles, and that amount includes all their legal costs too.
A spokesperson for Costner did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
This lawsuit adds to the growing list of legal and financial difficulties facing the large-scale western drama. Kevin Costner directed, co-wrote, starred in, and helped finance the project, and it has been plagued by issues.
In May, United Costume Corp. filed a lawsuit against the production team, alleging they were owed $350,000 for costumes used in the first two chapters of “Horizon.” However, two months later, the company dropped the lawsuit and stated it would not be refiled.
In May, stunt performer Devyn LaBella filed a lawsuit against the production team of “Chapter 2” in Los Angeles, claiming sexual discrimination, harassment, and retaliation. LaBella stated that a scene involving a sexual assault was filmed without a required intimacy coordinator present to ensure safety and proper protocol.

A stuntwoman working on Kevin Costner’s ‘Horizon’ films is suing the director, claiming she was unexpectedly asked to perform a simulated sexual assault without proper support from an intimacy coordinator.
In a court filing from August, Costner asked the lawsuit to be dismissed, stating he was surprised and disturbed by what he called false and misleading claims made by LaBella.
Last October, a Los Angeles court judge rejected Kevin Costner’s attempt to dismiss the lawsuit. While the judge didn’t support the claim that Costner violated the rights of a crew member during the filming of a sexual assault scene by using threats or force, she did allow other parts of the lawsuit to move forward.
The case is pending.
The film is currently involved in a legal dispute. New Line Cinema, City National Bank (as the bondholder for “Horizon”), and the production team disagree about the terms of their co-financing agreement, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The first installment of a planned four-part series, titled “Chapter 1,” came out in theaters in June 2024 and was later available on HBO Max. However, critics generally disliked it.
The Times called the film “Horizon” a complete waste of time and money, and described it as boring and painfully slow.
The movie wasn’t a financial success, earning only $38.8 million globally despite costing around $100 million to make.

Following the disappointing box office performance of ‘Chapter 1’, the next installment in Kevin Costner’s Western series has been delayed and will no longer be released as planned.
The second chapter of the film debuted at the Venice International Film Festival last September, but its planned release in theaters was canceled and hasn’t been rescheduled. Currently, the last two chapters are still being made or are in the planning stages, according to IMDb.
