Kevin Costner Lines Up First Movie Role Since Horizon

Despite not performing as well as hoped, the movie Horizon: An American Saga is currently on hold. It’s unclear if the Western series will continue, but Kevin Costner is now focusing on a different film project.

Kevin Costner is set to star in Honeymoon with Harry, a new comedy-drama directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa. Filming for the Amazon MGM Studios production will begin next month in Queensland, Australia, specifically in Brisbane and the Whitsunday Islands. Jake Gyllenhaal is also involved, and Sarah Pidgeon, known for her role in I Know What You Did Last Summer, is in discussions to join the movie.

Kevin Costner Plays an Overprotective Father

Based on Bart Baker’s novel, Honeymoon with Harry tells the story of a man (Jake Gyllenhaal) whose wedding plans are disrupted, forcing him to travel with his future father-in-law (Kevin Costner). Though initially clashing and arguing, the two men unexpectedly connect during their journey on a beautiful island in this heartwarming and funny drama.

According to the state’s Minister for the Arts, John-Paul Langbroek, the film Honeymoon with Harry is expected to boost the state’s economy by $51 million during production and create 215 jobs. It will also promote the state as a tourist destination to a global audience.

What’s the Deal With Horizon: An American Saga?

Kevin Costner originally intended to make four movies as part of his Horizon: An American Saga project. He directed and starred in the first film, which came out in 2024. However, it didn’t perform well in theaters, so the second movie, Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2, wasn’t initially released widely, although it has been shown at several film festivals. While some footage for a third movie existed, the project has been put on hold, and Chapter 2 is still awaiting a broader release.

A major challenge for Horizon: An American Saga has been financing. Kevin Costner personally invested a significant amount of his own money into the project, but much more funding is needed to continue the film series. He’s openly discussed how difficult it has been to secure the money for the third and fourth movies.

I’m actually putting my own money into this project, which I’ve already started – we’re into Chapter 3 now, actually! We shot for three days recently, and I’m heading right back to it, working as much as possible. A big part of my focus, though, is fundraising to keep things going. I’m just taking things one step at a time and seeing where it leads.
